By one item you don't mean just one item on ONE pokemon the whole time and no items on the other 5?

But yeah, I would like to enter the tournament. I'm trying to round up more gffer's that play to see if they're interested or not.

I do have one question, however.

wait-

Usually doubleteam is the only evasive move banned (as far as I've seen >_>.)

If you're too impatient to win.... was it really worth it?

No. Cresslia is an event, and Rotom/Heatran aren't legendary. Neither is Phione.

Really, you should use the list for the old legendaries, then say "Pokemon past #XXX, including X, X, and X, are banned."

Ah. I may have killed myself here.
I ran into a list online, and this tends to be a consensus..

Quote:
-Deoxys
-Deoxys-E
-Deoxys-F
-Deoxys-L
-Groudon
-Ho-oh
-Latias
-Kyogre
-Latios
-Lugia
-Mew
-Mewtwo
-Rayquaza
-Wobbuffet
-Wynaut
-Dialga
-Palkia
-Giratina
-Arceus
-Jirachi
-Manaphy
-Entei
-Suicunne
-Raiku
-Darkrai
-Heatran
-Shaymin
this list seems to be what everybody follows, be it legit, fair play, or anything else.

The 2006 Pokemon Challenge came up with some interesting ways to get to this. (an Adobe acrobat reader-link, so make sure you can view it)

and of course, everybody who went to the gamestop tournament recognizes

I was speaking idiomatically.

How the fuck did Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross and Dragonite get into there? Thats b/s since they aren't legendary
Quote:
name: Choice Band
move 1: Crunch
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Earthquake/Focus Punch
move 4: Pursuit/Focus Punch
item: Choice Band

nature: Adamant
evs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band Tyranitar is monstrously powerful. Crunch and Stone Edge both benefit from STAB and Tyranitar's massive Attack stat and will be your main methods of attack. Earthquake helps to cover some Steel types such as Magnezone and Lucario and hits Metagross and Jirachi, although Crunch does some heavy damage to the latter two already. Focus Punch hits many of his counters harder than anything else on the set, while Pursuit serves to destroy those who flee from Tyranitar. Pursuit is an incredibly dangerous move on Tyranitar, for his foes anyway. Anything that doesn't enjoy taking a boosted Crunch "can run, but they can't hide". Pursuit hits a fleeing enemy for the same damage as Crunch would and OHKOs almost everything that is weak to it. With many sweepers opting to use Choice items, some good prediction and making use of Tyranitar's useful resistances can get him for a free Pursuit to OHKO, or at least wear down opponents.

See the section below for some examples of the incredible power this set wields.

[Damage Calculations]

Max HP/Defense Suicune takes 45 - 53% from Stone Edge, 36 - 43% from Crunch.

Max HP/Defense Skarmory takes 47 - 56% from Stone Edge.

Max HP/Defense Swampert takes 42 - 50% from Crunch, 53 - 62% from Focus Punch.

Max HP/Defense Bronzong takes 43 - 50% from Crunch, 53 - 62% from Focus Punch.

Not to mention that Tyranitar is already capable of OHKOing many of the largest threats in OU, even if he just sticks to his STAB attacks.

This is why T-tar is banned.

Quote:
name: SpecsMence
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Dragon Pulse
move 3: Flamethrower
move 4: Hydro Pump
item: Choice Specs
ability: Intimidate
nature: Modest
evs: 4hp/252spatk/252spd

[SET COMMENTS]

The Salamence of choice is no longer bound to use physical attacks (yes, that's a pun on Choice Band). Salamence's oft-overlooked 110 Base Special Attack now has the 140 Base Power Draco Meteor to work with. Since only Steel type pokémon resist Dragon Attacks, Flamethrower (for Skarmory, Metagross, etc.) and Hydro Pump (for Heatran, Probopass and Bastiodon) hit 99% of the pokémon in the game with at least a 2HKO. That, in part, is why you see two direct-damage-dealing attacks of the same type and category (in this case, special) on the same pokémon — in practice you should be using Draco Meteor primarily, in the early and middle stages of battle, then Dragon Pulse to sweep up at the end, predicting the above otherwise "trouble pokémon" accordingly.

The more detailed and somewhat more complicated reason touches upon that notion of "trouble pokémon" as far as SpecsMence and Choice-pokémon in general are concerned, and it is one I will elucidate in depth as the concept is still confusing to even experienced battlers. The reason you don't see Hidden Power Grass or Hidden Power Electric, for Swampert and Gyarados respectively, as options is because of one simple rule about Choice-pokémon — they're all about prediction, on the part of both the user and his or her opponent. If you are locked into a particular attack, either the pokémon that switched into you is badly hurt or "you used the wrong attack"; it's as simple as that. Then, for the next turn, you know you're locked into that attack and you opponent probably does as well, depending on how much damage you did to his or her pokémon.

I hope that is clear enough, as, again, the moveset itself isn't exactly as intuitive as it may seem to some people. Hidden Power Ground may prove to be a viable option over Hydro Pump, as it is 4× effective on the three pokémon listed above who shrug off Dragon and Fire attacks and 2HKOs a predicted Empoleon as well. I feel that locking yourself into a Ground attack is very risky in DP though, given how large the threat posed by Flying-type or Levitating pokémon like Gyarados, Azelf and, yes, Salamence is. If you're set on using a Ground attack over Hydro Pump, though, go with HP Ground, as it outdamages Earthquake in every situation that calls for a Ground attack, even against a Calm Empoleon.

this is why Salamence is banned.

And this is for Dragonite
Quote:
name: Outrage
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Outrage
move 3: Fire Blast
move 4: Earthquake
item: Leftovers / Life Orb / Yache Berry / Lum Berry
nature: Jolly
evs: 58 HP / 252 ATK / 200 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]

There are very few things Dragonite does better than Salamence and Garchomp, but this is a really good example of one - Dragon Dance and the new souped-up Outrage. In the late-game, this Pokemon will out speed everything up to and including Choice Scarf Heracross after a DD, and with an added attack boost on top of 367 attack, Dragonite becomes a deadly late-game force. You can add Life Orb to strengthen the blows, or use Yache Berry to take an Ice Beam, allowing you to set up another Dance, cementing your victory. Lum Berry will cure confusion, allowing Dragonite to go for another round of Outrage without risk. Fire Blast and Earthquake take care of steel types.

Shaymin has 100 across the board too, I believe.

The legendary dogs are so weak, it's not even funny. The only scary one's would be a sleeptalk Suicune folowed by a sleeptalk Raikou. Entei doesn't even have the moveset to get to something like they can.

Pretty much, yeah. But yeah, my edited post above should answer all questions as to why those two dragons and that hideous beast we call a pokemon were banned (by hideous I mean scary).

The move sets and builds are also the standards we see played.

Hopefully someone can help me out here, especially after I saw that advanced moveset discussion a while back. I was thinking about putting one of my favorite pokemon on my team, Kingdra, but I've never actually used it in battle before (mainly because of the whole trading requirement). This isn't for serious battling mind you, just want something that can cream the elite four and get the monsters I like in the hall of fame.

Brine
Dragon Pulse
Ice Beam
Toxic

Anything I should watch out for/glaring holes in this moveset? Ah forgot to mention, I found out these moves for it from this site if you're curious.
Well... this is what smogon says:
Quote:
[SET]
name: Mixed
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 3: Rain Dance
move 4: Dragon Pulse
item: Leftovers
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Lonely
evs: 252ATK / 240 SPATK / 16 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]

A strange set on the surface, but this does work. Rain Dance boosts Kingdra's speed to 420, beating out even Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. With the speed boost and the power boost to both Water moves, Kingdra can lay down quite a hurting. Dragon Pulse is designed to handle anything that resists Water - beware of the odd Empoleon.

[SET]
name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Return
move 4: Hydro Pump / Draco Meteor / Substitute
item: Leftovers / Scope Lens
ability: Sniper
nature: Adamant
evs: 6HP / 252 ATK / 252 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]

Kingdra now has physical STAB to go with Dragon Dance, so this set takes advantage of it. Unfortunately for Kingdra, its speed is only sufficient to tie Scarf Heracross after a Dragon Dance. If you don't like ties, move 20 speed EVs to HP - you'll reach the old magic number of 264. Sniper is a scary trait, and Scope Lens is available to abuse this. The last move is a filler - you can pack some special move for physical walls, or Substitute to counter status moves, and allowing you to set up another Dragon Dance.

[SET]
name: Sniper
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Dragon Pulse
move 3: Surf
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Scope Lens / Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Sniper
nature: Modest
evs: 6HP / 252SPATK / 252 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set, in a word: fireworks. If Draco Meteor gets a critical hit, it will hit with enough force to bring down a Blissey. Scope Lens is ideal for taking advantage of this, but this set also doubles as a decent Choice set. You can also put Focus Energy on this set if you think you can pull it off.

[Other Options]

Kingdra learns Yawn, which is a good general move. It still gets Flail, but good luck pulling it off with Tyranitar everywhere.

[Opinion]

In the past, Kingdra has been bashed a lot for its poor movepool. In DP, like most other Pokemon, Kingdra got a huge helping of new moves to help it out. While Kingdra's movepool still isn't anything to write home about, it has a few very interesting options that could work well - with a little luck.

[Counters]

Ludicolo and Empoleon easily wall most Kingdra sets. Milotic, Suicune, and Celebi are also effective in this department. Kingdra's single weakness, Dragon, is a bit more prominent in DP than it was in past gens, so things that can take advantage of that will work. A little luck is necessary to beat Sniper sets. Kingdra's lack of resistances (aside from Fire and Water) are its greatest downfall - in general, just keep beating it down with strong attacks.

Oh yeah. I trained a new pokemon but it's not for competitive play. I decided to train one of the weakest pokemon in the game, Spinda .

Right now I gave it this moveset for now:
Teeter Dance (I wonder what it'll do in a 2v2 match)
Faint Attack/Dizzy Punch (still deciding, but I kept Faint Attack at the moment.)
Endure
Flail
Hold Item: Salac Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
Quote:
[SET]
name: Wishful Passer
move 1: Wish
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Protect / Calm Mind
move 4: Hypnosis
item: Leftovers
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SDef

Spinda Wishes that it had better stats. And a better sprite. You've gotta admit, it looks ugly. Incredibly ugly. It couldn't possibly be more ugly; if it walked into a fire, it'd look like it just came out of Extreme Makeover.

Now, as soon as it Wishes, you can Baton Pass out to pass the loving Wish to another Pokémon and restore half of its Hit Points... if Spinda doesn't die first writhing in agony from a Luvdisc Tackle. Protect helps stall its inevitable doom, scout for Choice Pokémon, and restore its own health from Wish. How exciting.

Instead of Wishing, Spinda may Calm Mind to rest in peace. Preferably under a grave. One turn should be all Spinda can take, so Hypnosis the enemy. How Spinda can do this is beyond me - you'd think its incredibly ugly features would be enough of a distraction to render its opponents utterly incapable of being hyptonized, but what do I know. Once you're all "set up", Baton Pass out to another Pokémon whose body is made out of muscles instead of paper.

[SET]
name: One-Trick Bear
move 1: Trick
move 2: Hypnosis
move 3: Psycho Cut / Faint Attack / Sucker Punch
move 4: Return / Double-Edge
item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

If Spinda has Choice Scarf, it outspeeds everything on its teetering legs. Take advantage of Spinda's horrendous face, using it to Trick your opponent (Spinda's face is like a train-wreck; it's horrible, yet you simply can't look away) while you swap their items, hopefully Tricking Spinda's item onto a tank or sweeper that wants to set up.

Now the advantage is in your hands. Hypnosis someone else, and you've just disabled a third of their team. And just as suddenly, Spinda's usefulness runs out. The only thing he can do next is Psycho Cut, Faint Attack, or Sucker Punch the Pokémon that otherwise resist Spinda's STAB moves.

[SET]
name: Enduring Flailer
move 1: Endure
move 2: Flail
move 3: Baton Pass
move 4: Faint Attack / Sucker Punch
item: Salac Berry
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Att / 4 Def / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

Whenever you think you're about to die (read: fairly common), make your Spinda Endure all the insults at his unsightly physique and survive at 1 HP. Send it off Flailing and crying madly against its attackers for a 200 base power attack multiplied by STAB. Baton Pass out to give another Pokémon a Speed boost, knowing that their trainer finally chose them instead of Spinda. Faint Attack or Sucker Punch that them there Ghosts.

[SET]
name: Focused Counter
move 1: Counter
move 2: Focus Punch
move 3: Return
move 4: Faint Attack / Psycho Cut
item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Att / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

If you're good at prediction, this is where Spinda's black belt training finally pays off. Whenever your opponents dawdle instead of attacking Spinda like they should be, let fly a Focus Punch to ram their faces in and make them as ugly as Spinda. If you can manage to anger them into physical attacks, Counter back their attack - thanks to rigorous training in secluded mountain temples and the Focus Sash around its waist, Spinda always survives the first attack.

Once you're weak or the enemy knocks your Focus Sash away, use the last two moves to flail around before you die: Return to try to reclaim Spinda's former glory, Faint Attack to fight sneaky, or Psycho Cut to show Spinda's true colors - a raging schizophrenic.

[Other Options]

Disable causes the enemy to become completely appalled at how much Spinda sucks horribly in every aspect of everything, and be unable to use the last move it did out of pity.

[Opinion]

Suffocate in a Heatran.

Seriously, what was GameFreak eating when they shat out this pitiful excuse for a Pokémon? It has a great movepool - in fact, it's one that extends out ad infinitum - but its stats went down the crapper.

At least Spinda has many uses, which are:

[Counters]

Good one.

Mawile takes anything of Spinda's - except Focus Punch - and Intimidate turns Spinda's limbs into jelly. Relicanth takes the same moves, and it can Head Smash Spinda and irreparably fracture its skull (not much difference with or without a head, anyway). If Relicanth has a Choice Band, it can come in on Trick Spinda relatively safely, and if Relicanth has Sleep Talk, it can take Hypnosis. Sudowoodo makes like a tree and ignores everything Spinda throws at it.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind participating in another tournament.

...is the current one over?

No, that shouldn't matter.

I'm running more tests to prove this, but nobody's ever gotten that message before.

*EDIT*
okay, it's either a traded pokemon he got, or it's his last pokemon in the PC(?)

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I'd like to join.

just for future reference, my hours got changed, so I can play anytime after 1300 CST.

*edit* you do not know how tough this was for me to choose who I wanted ._.

Oh yeah, did anybody see this?

For those who are too lazy...
Three employees of GAMEFREAK, the producers of the Pokémon RPGs, are participating in a promotion this and next week via the Global Trade Station (GTS). Junichi Masuda, director, Ken Sugimori, character designer, and Shigeki Morimoto, battle director, will use the GTS through Thursday, and again Sunday through Aug. 30, to search for and trade their Japanese Psyducks for American Ponytas.

To participate, players should enter the GTS during the promotion and deposit a Ponyta. Then they should select Psyduck as the Pokémon they are seeking, with no preference for level or gender.

Each employee will trade 30 Psyducks during the days of the promotion.
