i actually would've done almost the same thing. i know that when people get upset and yell, yelling back is one of the worst ways to end the argument. i had to deal with a very irate customer in the busy halloween season (keep in mind it was near the end of a 15 hour shift with no break and several constant lines of customers who waited till the last minute to buy a costume) and being quiet made her a bit more mad.... then just plain shut her up.
though i'd probably warn someone too if they mentioned my mother like that. i mean come on, i fuck your mother?
