Jump Drives as Memory help

Ok this is probably an easy problem to solve but I have been looking into getting new memory for my laptop for a while now BUT since my laptop is so old it only takes DDR memory NOT DDR 2 which means mines is more expensive and getting a new tower is something I wanted to do but I'm too lazy.

So I hear I can use those USB jump drives as extra memory, and they are cheap too, is there any special program or settings I need to use in windows xp (SP2) in order to use the jump drive as just extra memory?

Jam it back in, in the dark.
