To be fair though, if you've got a certain weapon in a game that's so good that everyone uses it and is really the only viable strategy that allows for victory in a certain game, then yes, it's probably too powerful and should be banned or else the game quickly becomes degenerate. The best example of this that I could find was banning Akuma in Super Turbo Street Fighter II tournament games because of how cheap he with his air fireball move. It was something the game wasn't meant to handle.

Aside from extreme examples like the above, most games don't have a dominating strategy that can't be countered in some way or another. That's why people who complain about camping in FPS games annoy me so much as well as people who whine and demand "10 min NO RUSH PLZZ" games on Starcraft. If only they'd learn how to defend or try out different tactics to counter them.
