The Office (US Version)
Yes, I'm aware of this thread. It's a compare and contrast thread.
I adore this show, first off. Both versions. 3x09:
I love the awkward tension this season in the love triangle. It really highlights the fact that the main character of the show isn't Michael, but Jim (played by the wonderful John Krasinski). What do you guys think, GFF? Got any theories? Any particular moments that made your side split? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I adore the UK version as well. I have it on DVD and watched it when it was on BBC America a couple years ago. Honestly, they're different shows. It's really a bit silly to compare them.
For someone just starting to get into this show, I would recommend watching Season 2 first. Season 1 isn't really all that good (mostly because all the jokes are ripped from the UK version). Season 2 is where the show begins to come into its own, as Capo said, and develop a real personality and flow. Sometimes, Michael's antics are so painfully self destructive I almost can't watch. Season 3:
This show is really the definition of ironic comedy. We all know Michael's schemes and machinations are horrible and will eventually completely fall apart and result in disaster, but he doesn't. He thinks he's the greatest. And that's where the comedy is. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
