Why not go for sheer pyrotechniques and go all-out for domination?

Although, my Civ games are typically peaceful, with victory achieved via space race. As such I usually go for a combination of industrious and financial - traits by Shi Huang Di if I'm not mistaken.

I'd love to join, but must decline since I suck and can NOT beat the computer on Noble mode

Isabella, oh how I hated that backstabbing religious bitch

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Mail the save game to each other, I assume. There's an entire subforum in CivFanatics dedicated to games like these.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Mount an ISO from GameCopyWorld, apply SafeDisc 4 Hider, and you're good to go.

Links:
Civilization 4 ISO
Safedisc 4 Hider

Also, put me down on reserve then, Araes. But remember Araes and Pangalin, you asked for it!

I lobby for a ban on tech trading. I hate it when the AI shares everything among themselves for relationships++

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I think the problem is you and Pangalin set a very high bar with your initial two posts, and that scared everyone off with the time commitment

Of course, but there are standards to keep up with. Y'know, with the Joneses and the Pangalin Murphies

If you have destroyers while everyone has macemen, you're playing way below your skill level My skill level tops out at Warlord. After that (Noble), I can't beat up the AI anymore.

Have any of those macemen killed your tanks?

2050, IIRC.

Also, why don't you try some economic sabotage? I read about this nasty trick a while back, but never had the chance to try it out

I never play above Warlords, and typically use Continents maps. I favor Cultural and Space Victories, so I tend to go for financial and industrious. I chose these traits because industrious civs have 50% wonder production, and the financial trait means more commerce, money, and ultimately hammers. My favored Civ in vanilla Civ4 is Shih Huang Di from China.

I don't pick opponents, but just random everything. I go for standard-length games, on a large map. I always start at the stone age, and almost always turn off technology trading.

I tend to micromanage the workers up until I expand to four or five cities. Then it is automated all the way. As far as civics go, I favor the fifth tier ones except for economy, where I like State Property. I try to build Pyramids as soon as practicable, so that all government civics can be available. This, of course, depends on availability of strategic resources.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Why turn off technology trading?
Because I hate it when the AI demand/beg tech from me, or if they start trading it among themselves. After all, I AM playing at levels where I have unfair advantages...!

And about automated workers, I've noticed they tend to blow up farms and make windmills instead, or forts.. Nothing really useful. >.> but then again that's where I fail at the micro part. Don't know when to turn farms into cottages or any of those different combinations
I think micro-ing workers is only worth it when you get your first few cities up. After that, I'd much rather have them build (rail)roads by themselves. You could always tell them never to blow up farms if you wish.

@Turbo: That would be Mr. Pangalin Murphy, Esq.

@Rychord: Vanilla refers to Civilization IV, without the expansion packs (Warlords and Beyond the Sword)

You know, I thought the lot of you kept loading and reloading if things didn't go your way (goody hut rewards etc.). It seems I must change my opinion now

You have a defensive pact with the Khan. Can you provoke Alexander or Montezuma to declare war on you first? :P

You probably have to have war plans beforehand, because you won't be winning any popularity contests. And I think you don't have diplomacy victory deactivated. Once the UN is built, your good friend Khan is most likely to vote for himself than for you

I think the big change in Warlords was greater emphasis towards warfare. And you can have nice vassal states.

I haven't played "Beyond the Sword", but I was told having wonder Corporations was the big attraction. They seem to be kind of similar to Religions, except there's a greater element of strategy in just economics (holy city of religion X gets Y gold for every city X is worshipped) or politics (we are upset that you have fallen under the sway of a heathen religion).

Jam it back in, in the dark.
