To enable a full diagnostic, please provide the following:
  1. Application and System event logs in Event Viewer (Start --> Run --> eventvwr.msc)
  2. Hard Disk Management view (Start --> Run --> diskmgmt.msc)
  3. Startup Item List under System Configuration Utility (Start --> Run --> msconfig) [OR] Startup Programs in Software Environment of System Information (Start --> Run --> msinfo32)
  4. Running Tasks in Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) [OR] Running Tasks in Software Environment of System Information

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I did a little more digging. I don't like the looks of your event logs, chief. Lots of errors going on in there!

You're using Windows XP SP1, am I right? If so, you may want to consider updating to Service Pack 2. I recommend a clean install via slipstream.

I noticed you deactivated your Norton antivirus software. Why?

You might find these useful in the interim, while I continue to sift through stuff. Other Help Desk regulars, here's your chance!
  1. http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/about6281.html - troubleshoot eventid 11 error involving plugplaymanager. (Also, are there any system conflicts in Device Manager?)
  2. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...4133612AAooWlg - Turn off your floppy, if it's generating error messages.
  3. http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/54390/ - Bypass error messages by forcing processes to close quicker.
  4. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-465695.php - Possible solution to eventid 9 error involving sbp2port
  5. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813818/en-us - Hotfix to eventid 9 error involving sbp2port, regarding Firewire devices
  6. http://www-new.experts-exchange.com/...7&qid=21549697 - Possible solution to eventid 111 error involving Removable Storage Service (USB flash disk)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Glad to help, though I now feel rather embarassed accusing you of disabling Norton, when it's just plain old Nvidia (nwiz, nvcpl)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
