What we NEED is to go back to gas rationing. Taxes won't work because rich people don't care. Limit people to 5 gallons of gas a week and FORCE them to start conserving and carpooling. People are too dumb to care about the future.

Five gallons a week per family? Per family member? Every family travels differently. Five gallons a week would be a burden to people like my father. He communtes from B/CS to Hearne every day (30 mile drive) and has to keep an eye on an almost 10,000 acre farm partnership. How could he make do on such little gas? How about the people who live out of the urban regions in suburbs who have to commute to urban regions daily? How fair is it that they get so little gas and meanwhile, folks who go almost nowhere across a week get to stock up on gas? Rationing gas isn't the way to go.
One reason gas prices are so high is also due to mixes and regulations each state wants to meet. Get a few types of national fuels, eliminate state-to-state mixtures and prices would drop by $0.20 easy. That is a good chunk of the processing, in fact.
There's nowhere I can't reach.
