I've worn glasses since first grade. I was extremely nearsighted and my eyesight got worse and worse every year until it finally reached the point where I was legally blind. Eight years ago I had laser surgery on my eyes because I was going to have to wear contacts and glasses, since no one made contacts that were strong enough for me.
I had 20/20 vision until a couple of years ago (boy was that strage thing to get used to) when my vision started to slip a little. My eyes aren't bad now...I think they're 20/40 or so, and I can elect to not wear my glasses if I'm hiking or swimming or going somewhere where I have to dress up. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Contacts are a pain in the ass. I know, since I wore them for years.
Lasik surgery is a wonderful thing. Oh, and by the way - it doesn't hurt at all. There's nowhere I can't reach. |

Don't forget how prone contact lens wearers are to eye infections. My cousin went blind in one eye because he didn't clean his properly.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Laser surgery is pretty expensive here in the US, and I have never heard of any insurance company covering it, since it's an elective procedure. I had my surgery years ago, and even back then I paid $900 per eye. I'm sure it's more expensive now.
