Popular media rumour has it that she was kept out of the limelight for so long for two reasons. Firstly because they wanted to make sure she actually looked like her dad to head off the numerous rumours of him not being the father and secondly because she had a large, purple birthmark on her head that couldn't be removed until she was a month old. Apparently the initial Vanity Fair photoshoot took about 6 hours before they were happy with the shots...
