Sounds like the 60-player multiplayer is more going to be for team-based matches than flat-out deathmatch. Since it looks like only dedicated servers will be hosting them, it's probably left up to the choice of whoever is running the servers.
Pretty crazy stuff though, Insomniac always seems to go totally nuts with these projects. 8 player coop? There are hardly any games with 4 player coop. It would be pretty impressive if they managed to keep the game running smoothly with 8 players in a full campaign setting, especially since there's a pretty clear graphical upgrade as well. It's almost odd thinking of how other games give you about a half dozen AI teammates fighting alongside you in the campaign mode and realizing that in Resistance 2, all those characters could be fellow players...what kind of bosses could possibly stand up to a squad of 8 players? I'd like to see how the partly randomized geometry works too. It seems like that could be a good balance between typical games' completely static environments and something like dungeon crawlers where they have randomized but completely bland and generic level structures. Hopefully it will keep each game fresh while still being familiar each run through. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
