Your Resistance 2 is only making my penis harder!

So a bunch of new info all of a sudden spewed all over the net about this game. All of this information can apparently be found in the latest GameInformer, but most of the stuff written here is stuff I just copied and pasted from random websites that I found:
Quote:

• Two different campaigns:
• One campaign focusing on Nathan Hale across 1950's USA invaded by the Chimera
• One campaign focusing on a squad of soldiers, supports 2 players offline, 8 players Online Co-op
• Online Multiplayer (dedicated servers) supporting 60 people
• Classes for Online, templates include Heavy, Special Ops, Medic
• Mobile phone quality headset voice transfer
• Partial Randomized Geometry in level spots that change with each play through
• Boss fights in FPS gaming “finally done right”
• New vehicles including Chameleon (Stalker with cloak)
• Insane stat tracking & Community features coupled with MyResistance.net
• Release: Fall 2008
Obviously one of the bigger announcements is the 60 player online matches and the 8-player campaign co-op. Here’s some more information about those things:
Quote:

• The multiplayer will not be a focus on fast and furious gameplay, but more on squad vs. squad for strategic and tactical matches.
• When initially logging into an online match, the game will divide players into smaller four-to-eight man lobbies for each squad, where the squads may then communicate among one another and camaraderie.
• Differing game modes may have squads be tasked with particular objectives.
• Careful level design aims to deliver intense combat zones with small team conflicts that flow within the arena of larger battle.
• Dedicated servers coupled with stat servers for faster matchmaking.
• Full-featured profile pages through myresistance.net will incorporate social networking concepts.
• Open clan and party systems to promote the community aspect. No player invites needed.
I really enjoyed Resistance: FOM, even though I must admit I havent played the game in MONTHS. I'm a little skeptical about some of the things they are gunning for, such as mobile phone quality communication. I haven't really seen anything come close to that yet.

Still, this is Insomniac we're talking about. Those guys are fucking robots, consistently putting out nothing but high quality.

I like how they are taking the whole 'class' concept (I assume ala CoD4?) and combining that with the implementation of squads. If executed properly, it could really be a pretty sweet idea - kind of like a team within a team.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Kimchi Jan 13, 2008 06:59 PM

Nice, I enjoyed Resistance, but too many pr0z online.

Slayer X Jan 13, 2008 07:08 PM

Can't wait for this. The first one was good. But it was laggy everytime I went to play it. It was probably because of the PSN at the time. Cause when I was trying to play was when the PS3 had just come out.

As for everything else, it sounds very cool. Graphics look great.

Only thing is if KZ2 and Resistance 2 can co-exist in the same year. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Megalith Jan 13, 2008 08:25 PM

Mobile phone quality? If it's anything like my Motorola, then I don't want it.

I still have to play the first Resistance. Playing an FPS using the PS3 is troubling though.

map car man words telling me to do things Jan 13, 2008 08:39 PM

Please please please please don't again force us to start an entirely new campaign just to play co-op. That was the stupidest idea ever.

Rockgamer Jan 13, 2008 09:08 PM

Haven't played the first one yet (I did play the demo though and thought it was pretty good), but hearing all this is definitely making me excited enough to start it. The sixty-player online and eight-player co-op alone sound impressive, so if they manage to pull those off well this may be the first PS3 game I buy on the day of release.

Granted I really don't know too much about the game yet, but I would bet that you probably will have to start an entirely new campaign, since the single player campaign and co-op campaign are supposedly two completely separate storylines with different characters. I could be wrong, though.

Miles Jan 13, 2008 09:42 PM

Haha! Q needed help on the single player campaign and hard to start over to get it.

Holy shit. 60 player deathmatches will be the most awesome and chaotic thing ever.

Slayer X Jan 13, 2008 10:13 PM

The single-player campaign and the 8 player co-op campaings are seperate campaigns altogether. Different levels, cinematics, characters, etc. So having to start from the beginning is what you will want to do this time around since it's like a whole nother game.

Solis Jan 13, 2008 10:26 PM

Sounds like the 60-player multiplayer is more going to be for team-based matches than flat-out deathmatch. Since it looks like only dedicated servers will be hosting them, it's probably left up to the choice of whoever is running the servers.

Pretty crazy stuff though, Insomniac always seems to go totally nuts with these projects. 8 player coop? There are hardly any games with 4 player coop. It would be pretty impressive if they managed to keep the game running smoothly with 8 players in a full campaign setting, especially since there's a pretty clear graphical upgrade as well. It's almost odd thinking of how other games give you about a half dozen AI teammates fighting alongside you in the campaign mode and realizing that in Resistance 2, all those characters could be fellow players...what kind of bosses could possibly stand up to a squad of 8 players?

I'd like to see how the partly randomized geometry works too. It seems like that could be a good balance between typical games' completely static environments and something like dungeon crawlers where they have randomized but completely bland and generic level structures. Hopefully it will keep each game fresh while still being familiar each run through.

"It Begins."

aw snap BUMP.

In case anybody is interested, the first teaser trailer just popped up on the Playstation Blog -

The next trailer and worldwide gameplay footage debut will be on the June 13th episode of Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley (it’s a full episode covering R2).In the meantime, check out the teaser, and don’t worry, you’ll be hearing more from us before June. Check out the April 17th Full Moon Show Podcast (Insomniac Games :: Welcome) for more details about the teaser and about R2.

OmagnusPrime Apr 15, 2008 07:37 AM

The teaser trailer looked incredibly plain and generic. I've never played the original and I have no real plans to because it all sounds rather vanilla.

xiaowei Apr 15, 2008 01:21 PM

That felt like a trailer for a trailer.

Funny, because it actually is. It's pretty much the end bit of a longer trailer they made (but obviously haven't shown yet), with an added narration.

The trailer I've seen looks very good, but it's difficult for me to get excited for this what with the first game proving to be so mindnubmingly average.

Hay. June 13th just hit, and GameTrailers just did their huge Resistance 2 special, thus releasing another load of details about the game. Take a break from MGS4 and check it out:

- Sentinels are ally soldiers that are immune to the virus, but have side affects due to immunity
- Boss called "Leviathan" (looks like the Cloverfield creature or Godzilla)
- One of the cities later in the game will be an altered 1950's Chicago
- The Grims are a melee enemy that attacks in hordes
- Chicago will be near the end of the game
- Opening of the game picks up exactly where Resistance Fall of Man ends
- First level takes place in Iceland
- One of the locations in the Co-Op campaign takes place in Scotia, near the Redwoods.
- There will be a lot of story cross over between singleplayer campaign and co-op campaign
- Multiplayer maps are specifically designed for multiplayer
- Chimera will be in multiplayer, just not shown in current build
- New creature called the Chameleon will cloak and appear only when close, attacks are one hit kills
- Cloven are involved in the war against the Chimera, but won't be in the U.S.
- For weapons...the Auger is back, however Insomniac has trashed the XR-005 Hailstorm
- Resistance 2 will have a 2 weapon system instead of carrying every weapon in the game
- Singeplayer will have at least one vehicle
- No vehicles in multiplayer
- Cpt. Rachel Parker will not return in Resistance 2

Looks sexy. I hope the restriction on how many weapons you are able to carry at once will hopefully add some more strategic value to the game.

Firefly Jun 16, 2008 07:56 PM

Thanks to BonersGames, I was able to watch a complete playthrough of RFoM; I was intrigued (though carrying every weapon in the game at once was kind of odd). And what I've read about R2 (thanks, GameInformer), I imagine things will get... more intriguing.
With that out of the way... it occurs to me that with multiplayer server capacities being what they are, I for one wonder when certain team-based scenarios (such as CTF) will grow beyond having merely two teams. Imagine, for instance, a map with four teams, each with their own flag to defend.

For anyone who is interested -

RESISTANCE 2 BETA SIGNUPS.

Carry on.

eprox1 Oct 16, 2008 07:51 PM

Emails are going out today to people who signed up for the beta, which is apparently starting tonight.

I haven't gotten one. YET.

Has anybody else purchased Quore or preordered the game and received a key? I know there were something like 4 different ways to obtain entry into the beta...too bad I chose the one method that is the most unlikely. What can I say - I'm cheap :/.

Rockgamer Oct 16, 2008 08:24 PM

I didn't buy Qore or preorder the game either, but I'm still hoping I get in. Not really because I'm so desperate to play it (like with LBP), but because it seems like this might be the only way to try it before it comes out. I haven't heard anything about a normal demo, and the full game is less than a month away. I guess they could always release one after it comes out, though.

On that note though, is anyone else getting freaking sick and tired of betas? It seems like every other game now has some beta nowadays, and it especially sucks when they release one in lieu of an actual demo (would it hurt Sony to release a small one or two level demo for LBP, especially for people who didn't get into the LBP beta and are on the fence about it?). The worst part is when they use it as some kind of premium enticement, like a preorder bonus or something. Why should you have to put money down on a game just to test it for them?

Who knows - they could always pull a Warhawk and release a demo for the game well over a year after it's release.

This is something I've always wondered, and sadly fell prey to with MGO. I really want to get the Valkyria Chronicles demo that's out with the new issue of Quore, but c'mon - it's a goddamn demo.

Seriously though, it's genius from a business perspective. If a game receives a great enough level of hype - you can essentially further entice people to buy your product in advance while simultaneously receive free raw testing data from the beta.

Yeah, that was just plain strange. It had a beta too, though, so R2 is par for the course so far. I guess I'll be playing the R2 demo in November 09.

This one was really stupid. Hell, Qore in general is really stupid. It's a shame too, because the game is getting a lot of positive hype, but I don't know how many are willing to pay for a demo (because there's no other real reason to buy Qore). I'm hoping this demo will become free soon though, like all the other exclusive demos they had (Naruto and MotorStorm: PR).

Oh yeah, I definitely don't disagree with it from a business perspective. If people are that desperate to play something, you might as well milk them for all they're worth.

Jin Oct 17, 2008 12:13 AM

The beta has been a lot of fun. I've been spending a lot of time playing co-op and TDM. Game looks pretty nice and it's fun, I can't wait for the full game to come out.

eprox1 Oct 23, 2008 06:36 PM

Rock on - I just got accepted into the beta. It's downloading now - but I won't be able to try it out until later tonight after the Wild beat the shit out of the Sabres.

Anybody else able to grab it who possibly wants to play a round later tonight?

Shenlon Oct 23, 2008 09:09 PM

I just got the beta today too.
I've only played the demo from part 1 and it seemed like a lot of fun so I'm ganna try this out. Downloading it now and I'll play tonight as well.

Rockgamer Oct 23, 2008 10:24 PM

I got in as well (must not be as difficult to get into as the LBP Beta was), but unforunately my internet has been acting up so I haven't been able to download it yet. Hopefully I'll have it done by this weekend, and maybe we can all get together and try some stuff out.
