OpenOffice.org has been able to read *.docx files since version 3.0. I've been working with OOo in MS Office-heavy environments quite well, mainly due to the fact that people tend to stay the hell away from MS Office 2007 and its weird Ribbon interface, along with a general preference for the pre-2007 document formats, for maximum compatibility with machines that run the older versions (any official or unofficial patches notwithstanding). Ironically this also works in favor of OOo, which by now handles those formats quite effortlessly and its more MS Office 2003-like interface is probably going to hasten adoption quite a bit.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Sounds like that type of nasty issues that would take longer to figure out than reinstalling the software or upgrading it to the latest version. 3.0.1 just came out, it's a bugfix release so it might be for you.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
