Grand Theft Auto IV

GTA4 was officially announced today. It will come out on October 16th, 2007 for PS3 AND Xbox 360 simultaneously. That is really the only thing announced about it though. Interestly enough, this is the first GTA to go back to the numbered system since, well.... GTA3. It makes be wonder if they are returning to an old city. Too bad that is the only info.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Wasn't GTA1 very similar to GTA2 though? And didn't GTA2 kind of suck? But you never know. I hope there is something new that is very revolutionary. I hope the new big thing isn't online though. I really have no interest in that.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I never saw Miami Vice myself, so I can't really compare it to Vice City other than I know the dude from Miami Vice had a black partner who Lance Vance was probably modeled after. But there is no denying that Vice City is HEAVILY influenced on Scarface. Even if you base it on plot alone "criminal gets out of jail goes to Miami, and has nothing, but gets into the life of crime again and works his way up the ranks to become king of the city". And there are so many Scarface references in that game it's hard to even count. GTA3 even took things from Scarface.

I think the reason they chose the name "Vice City" has less to do to with that they wanted to name it after Miami Vice because it was similar, I think it has more to do with the fact that they wanted the game set in Miami(probably IMO because they used some ideas in GTA3 and wanted to make a Scarface-like game), but didn't want to call the game GTA Miami. So they had to find another name for Miami and if you think "Miami", nothing in paticular really comes to mind, but if you think of the word "Vice", you think "Miami Vice", hence why they called the game "Vice City", because people would quickly realize the game is set in Miami.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Seriously, watch even one episode of Miami Vice and you'll see it. Sure there's some Scarface influences but only a few. There's influences in there from pretty much every Mafia film going.
You can also argue that on costumes that the Hawaii shirt(Tommy's main costume) is from Scarface. Scarface is also the same timeframe. They probably didn't use any songs from Scarface in Vice City because alot of the soundtrack from Scarface was already used in GTA 3 to make a entire radio station. (Flashback FM).

Just look at this website that shows a few major comparisons...
http://www.gamechronicles.com/featur...rface/body.htm

I couldn't find any sites on Miami Vice references except that the cops in Vice City where Pastel uniforms like in Miami Vice.

Like I said, I never saw Miami Vice, so really the only thing that I can fully agree with is the black partner, and I am sure they use other Miami Vice references, but I have an extremely hard time believing that "at least half of the cutscenes" are from Miami Vice... Considering Miami Vice is about a bunch of cops, it doesn't seem likely that cops are doing the types of things Tommy Vercetti does in "half" the cutscenes.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
