Am I the only one who thinks Halo 3 is WAY overhyped? I think the Halo series are some great first person shooters, but for the Halo 3 to be considered the most anticipated game EVER is insane to me. I can name dozens and dozens of games I have been way more excited to play than a Halo game and are much better games overall than Halo to me.
Like I said, the Halo series is great, and I have my copy of Halo 3 paid for and I'll be playing next week. But the way it is hyped, one would think Halo 3 will be the greatest game ever made and it is god's gift to video games. Frankly, I think MANY people are going to be disappointed, regardless of how good it is because so many people think so damn highly of it before even playing it. To me, it is just one more good video game. I am looking forward to playing it, but the insane level of hype needs to end because it is not warranted at all. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Secondly, I'm talking about the Single Player game mostly. Halo 2 was way overhyped too, and at that point, the only thing people really had to be excited over was a sequel to Halo 1 which is single player only except of the PC version which not nearly as many people played. So the beta really means nothing. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I am talking about the Hype around the game. The Beta has nothing to do with the hype. Just as many people would be buying the game if there was no public beta. That's a fact. Halo 2 didn't have a public beta as far as I know and it was overhyped too. Jesus Christ! I do feel like a fucking rocket scientist. And you are right, Devoxycontin. What I meant to say was Offline, in relation to Online. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ok, you're right, maybe the million people who played the beta, never heard of Halo and obviously had no intension of buying it, and just happened to somehow mistakenly signed up for the beta and played it and that is the reason they will now buy the game....
Back to reality... 99.9999999% of the people who played the beta have heard of Halo 3 and were going to buy it anyway, genius. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Who is Skills? Look, my point is, for the last time, is almost all of the people who went though the trouble to sign up for the beta were obviously fans of the series and were VERY likely to buy the game regardless of if there was a beta or not. If the beta had any effect on the hype, it is very minimal, and very likely means nothing to the sales the game will get. Most amazing jew boots

Frankly, Halo, to me, is all about the single player experience. Multiplayer is secondary. All I wanted to know is Halo 3 really deserving of the hype. I don't really care about what caused the hype. Halo = great series, yes. Halo 3 Hype = PHENOMENALLY UNBELIEVABLY GREAT, BEST GAME EVER MADE. The hype is not warranted in my opinion. You said it yourself. Halo 2 was a disappointment. So you can't possible feel that the amount is hype is equal to the quality game. That would be nuts. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I can't see how you can say it's a 9.9. Way too short by any FPS standard. How ya doing, buddy? |
I think Bungie just got lazy, and decided to focus too much on the multiplayer, leaving people who bought the game for a great single player campaign(Like me) with a shorter than average FPS. Granted it might be extremely fun, I don't know yet, but it's way too short. I'm disappointed and I haven't even touch the game yet. Maybe I'm spoiled by 60 hour RPGs. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I want to play this single player game for more than 6 hours, dude. Yes, Gears of Wars was too short, but at least it was a unique game, it did something different than other shooters, so I can understand the accolades. Halo 3 is more of the same though, it's already been done in Halo 1 and Halo 2, and countless others similar to it. At the very least, one would think, with all the endless hype and quotes like "the most anticipated game ever made"(which I definitely don't agree with), it would be at least as long as the average FPS, but should be longer. Yet Halo 3 is shorter than the average FPS. And from what I've read, it seem that the campaign is not even as good as Halo 1 was. That's bullshit.
And fuck the Multiplayer, the whole Halo hype started from Halo 1 having a great single player campaign mode. Many play it for only for online multiplayer now, but a lot still play for the Single player. Single Player is not a "Bonus". That's a dumb statement. I'm not even into the Multiplayer of Halo. I recently played though Halo 2 campaign again, and I haven't played the online game since a month or 2 after I got the game when it launched. It got boring to me pretty quickly, unfortunately. Let's put it this way, if Halo 3 was multiplayer only, I wouldn't even put a thought into buying this game. Jam it back in, in the dark.
