Hum, those converter cables usually require a YUV digital component output. I'm pretty sure consoles don't output YUV to component and I'm positive they don't output a digital signal over component. This is usually reserved for projectors and the reason such cables exist.
You would need a scaler box in such a setup you are describing to convert the analog component signal to a digital DVI signal, but they aren't cheap: http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2dvi.html Here is a 'cheap' model running for $280.00. Jam it back in, in the dark.
