So much for firing up on the 19th and it automatically downloading. Fired up my 360 this morning to see if it'd download, but no joy. Hopefully by the time I get home from work it will actually be working.

Tails makes himself another female avatar, what?

Oh right, well that'd explain it then.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

After doing this, I realized how homosexual it is to have a MALE avatar.
Yes, it is of course homosexual to represent yourself, a male, as a male. Tell me, do you look in the mirror and realise it's homosexual to respresent yourself as a 'MALE' and then go dress up as a woman? I mean, it'd explain a lot, so just wondering.

So wait. When you turn on your TV - you want to see MEN? I mean, if thats where you want to put your wet regions thats your own business.
So let me get this right, you're powering up your Xbox now and the thing you're seeing you're fantasizing about putting your wet regions into? Into a goofy cartoon looking thing? Whatever gets you off I suppose.

I, however, was just talking about the on-screen cartoon representation of myself (unlike you LeHah I'm not such narcissistic git that I think about myself that way, but again, if that's what gets you off).

I was speaking idiomatically.

It always freezes anytime I view details on people in the Friends channel then try to go back. Sometimes if I let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes it will load up, though..
Yeah, this is the same thing that happened to me, and after leaving it for a couple of minutes it did indeed return to life OK.

what's surprising for me is that of all the games for the system, Halo 3, heavily marketed by Microsoft, is said to be worse!
Yes, a game released over a year before a new feature was added to the dashboard, a feature that during the development of Halo 3, hell probably even at the time of release, Microsoft probably didn't even know was going to happen let alone Bungie. That game, that game so heavily marketed by Microsoft doesn't work with that feature properly, the absolute bastards, damn Microsoft and all the evil they stand for, etc, etc.

I've not encountered that issue yet. The only time it's frozen on me has been when backing out having viewed someone on the new friends list, though it was only a temporary freeze eventually coming back to life.

Speaking of the new friends list, there's a thing with it I've noticed that irks me a little, purely because it makes no sense to me. When you navigate to the friends list, certainly for the first time, the new dashboard goes away and starts loading people's avatars. This isn't instantaneous and can take a few seconds, and for some reason it starts with the very end of your friends list, meaning when you have quite a few people on your list it can take some time until it eventually loads the people at the front, the online people and parties, i.e. the ones you're most interested in seeing right from the off. This strikes me as incredibly backwards. Probably shouldn't annoy me, but it does a little.

That's odd. I've always had it load from the start. It does sometimes take a while to load up people's avatars though. I end up staring at name bubbles for a few minutes.
No, you're talking about the same thing as me. Next time you load your 360 and go to your friends list, look at the right most people, their Avatars will load in first, I bet you.

Ended up getting a Hori EX2 arcade stick for the 360 so that I can play fighting games and not have to suffer the 360's horrid d-pad. It's taking a little getting used to, but straight off the bat it's proving to be a better choice than the 360 pad. It's nice actually holding a direction and the character moving in it, not randomly jumping or crouching because the pad thinks I'm pressing a diagonal or some shit.

Unfortunately I'm still not that great at SSF2THDR, but slowly (very slowly) improving.

How is HD Remix online though? I played the demo and got a pretty nasty lag spike.
I've encountered a couple of matches where it's been laggy, but for the most part the online fights in SSF2THDR are pretty damn smooth. The only real issue with the online side of the game is the matchmaking stuff, which can be a bit painful. Trying to use the 'Quick Match' option is entirely pointless as it never seems to find any available games. But if you then go to custom match and search you'll get a big long list. However, clicking on any of these is likely to pop up a message saying the session is full or unavailable, but you get there eventually.

Yeah, sorry I should have said that I was talking about ranked matches. I've not done any player match searches as I've only played with mates, like Rotor, in various player sessions, however those have been issue free by and large. The one problem I have come across in that area is that on the odd occasion the game goes a little screwy and the information at the top goes a bit wrong: you can't really see what each player has health wise, and the round win tokens show up three for each person, that sort of thing. I've also had the music cut out a couple of times in various games. It's nothing to get worried about though, and doesn't affect the online play.

Since I never really played on arcade fighters in the arcade, and have never previously owned an arcade stick for a console it was purely a case of being none the wiser. However, I'm very much coming to realise that an arcade stick is just miles better for it (I might have to revisit some of the fighters in my collection and see how they handle).

If this serves any relevance I'm a Canadian.
That is going to serve a fair bit of relevance. The country you're in will affect who you need to contact, and also what your retail rights are. For example, in the UK you can return to the store up to a year after purchase. As such you'll benefit from the advance of a fellow Canadian, but I'll post this link I found a while back where someone's compiled all the useful info for UK citizens on the off chance that anyone else needs it or that some of the info provided is useful: Faulty 360s, warranties and consumer rights FAQ V1 - AVForums.com

Given Jasper boards have only just been spotted then I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. Sure, you might get lucky, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for store policies, you need to look up what your consumer rights are for your country (Skills might be of more help here), which should be on your government's website if not anywhere else.

Some of the news out of CES 09, apparently we should expect more regular updates to the dashboard, and they're looking at increasing the 100 friend limit.

However because you originally downloaded it on a different 360, you would need to be logged into XBOX Live to use any of the things you download. Also, nogamertag other than the yours will be able to use the things you download, except on the first console to download that content.
Whilst this is true, and was previously your only option, Microsoft have got an online facility to allow you to migrate your licences to your new machine: Xbox.com | System Use - Transferring Content Licenses to a New Console

Seems some ESRB ratings might have let slip that Max Payne 1 and 2 are on their way to the Xbox 360, probably as Xbox Originals:

Quote:
Max Payne and Max Payne 2 may be on their way to 360 courtesy of Xbox Originals, judging by an ESRB posting dug up by Destructoid.

The recently updated listing has both games down for Xbox 360, in addition to their original platforms.

PEGI hasn't caught up yet, and Rockstar/Take-Two hasn't said anything, but followers of such things point to parallels with past Originals.

And given that Max Payne 3 was announced last week, it wouldn't be all that big a surprise either.

Xbox Originals sell for 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40) apiece, and the line-up includes the likes of Halo, Fable, Ninja Gaiden Black and Psychonauts.

Seems Microsoft have decided not to try and screw their consumer base again and are now including the E74 error in the three year warranty:

Quote:
Microsoft has extended its three year Xbox 360 warranty policy to cover E74 errors.

The company said that the E74 error message some users have encountered “can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console”.

As well as extending its warranty coverage, Microsoft will refund customers made to pay an out of warranty repair charge after running into the fault.

“While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74” on their screen,” the company said in a statement on the Help and Support section of its website.

“After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console,” it added.

“As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue.”

Back in July 2007 Microsoft upped its warranty coverage for Xbox 360 from one year to three years for the well-publicised three-red-light hardware failure, a move resulting in charges of over $1 billion for the firm.

Some information on the new Xbox dashboard, which has some a bit of a 'what the hell' going on, as apparently some of the updates (such as the party system improvements) are available to the US only.

Quote:
The list [of updates] is somewhat disappointing in that many of the big features touted at this year's E3 are yet to be introduced. So there's not a hint of last.fm, Facebook or Twitter support. Xbox 360 Games on Demand is still "coming soon" despite a listing, and the "instant on" 1080p movie streaming we talked about has still yet to implemented. More than that, a great many of the new features are currently for US gamers only (the party enhancements, puzzlingly so).
Read the rest, plus a full run down of the updates, on Digital Fountry (EuroGamer): [ source ]

There's mention of possible perks for long-time Xbox Live Gold members, which will be interesting to see what that turns out to be. The whole Avatar Marketplace can get fucked. I'm all for games being able to reward you Avatar stuff, tied into achievements or however they choose to do it, but paying even 80 MS points for Avatar stuff, not a bloody chance.
