BitComet takes all bandwidth

I'm not sure if this suppose to happen...

But when I open Bitcomet and start downloading torrents...everything else runs slow...my AIM would sign on and off...web pages take forever to load.

Is that suppose to happen or is something wrong with my connections?

By the way I am running a cable modem. (I heard something about maybe opening ports on a google search I done before but I didn't understand it very well)

Jam it back in, in the dark.
