As much as I'd love to join, I'm going to have to decline for the same reason as Zerg - after 10 turns our Civ would probably be a smoldering pile of rubble.

I, too, like the cultural victory, but that's probably just because my play style is:

-Build three or four cities
-make a few troops to defend them (maybe)
-go nuts with the wonders
-when i get a great artist, build a city next to an opponent's city and steal it through culture
-my empire of 7 or 8 cities starts to build military because that's all that's left to do
-win cultural victory shortly after beginning the conquest of everyone else's longbowmen with my tanks

That's what I get for being a pacifist, i suppose.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Alright, fine Pang, I'll sign up to play if we need more people, but if I get blown to bits I'm blaming you

This would actually be a lot of fun if it worked

Hang on a second, I just realized something.

I probably can't play with you guys, because I can't play the normal version of Civ IV. My version (which is more or less stolen off of a friend) only works if I'm playing the beyond the sword expansion - which sucks. Sorry, but unless I can get hold of his Civ disc when I'm home for easter, my name's gonna have to be scratched.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

i've got the original installed, but can't play without the disc. I'm gonna talk to my friend when I'm home, he knows more about these things than i do.

as for getting a no-cd crack, i can't torrent here, and i don't trust most of those sites with the ten .rar files (i'm also not sure what to do with them). I really don't know that much about computers - more than most, to be sure, but i also have a habit of wrecking things if i don't know what i'm doing.

not to mention the other versions don't have the epic opening menu music.

I started a game this afternoon to get back into the swing of things, left the difficulty on noble. It's not going well.

The worst part is that I set it to always peace so that I could at least practice economy, which is what I thought I was good at. It's really not helping my confidence.

That sounds pretty good, but if you don't mind could I go at the end of the order? I'm going to be busy from wed. probably through about mon. I'll still be able to be on, i'll just be busy and might not have time to strategize.

Also, mind if I ask what's going wrong with your game Hawkeye?
Suffice to say that I'm out of practice and used to playing on settler. I'm just a lot farther behind technologically and in terms of expansion than I really should be. At this point I'm going for a cultural victory but even that might not work (i've got 3 cities pumping out over 100 culture per turn, at this point i think that if no one else tries the same thing and as long as no one wins any UN elections i should be ok).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah I think it's mostly just a shock to the system - i probably should have worked my way up to noble. I didn't manage to found any religions - i usually found almost all of them, so really i just need to get used to the lack of gold and not automatically winning.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Alright. I'll hopefully do my turn tomorrow afternoon sometime - things are still busy but should have calmed down by then.

EDIT: anyone have any advice for what I should do? Are we trying to found as many religions as possible or build up a military? Mostly asking about what to build, as our lack of scouts and workers is confusing me.

I was speaking idiomatically.

sorry, forgot to look here while playing. made a worker because it was 4 or 5 turns faster and i wanted to get started on roads, and getting hold of the stone. in the end, nothing exploded, just need to sort out the info for your viewing pleasure.

edit: once again, my inability to to these internet things shines through. what should I use to upload the save game file?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Our people awoke from their slumber one day to find that another leader had moved on from this world. His replacement was to be a young new leader, lacking confidence and experience. If only they had a democracy, they thought. Then we could vote this fool out and get another leader. Unfortunately, with the development of such an idea still a few thousand years away, the new leader took power anyway.

The first question I was asked as the new Despot of the small nation of America (despite the nation’s logical existence being shaky at best due to considerable lack of historical accuracy in favor of keeping future Americans proud to have been a nation in 4000 BC) was what our warrior in the north should do.

Fighting was tempting - i knew that our men had not yet tasted battle and that they yearned to do so, but I decided that the 50% odds of victory were a large and unnecessary risk at this point, and chose to play it safe and tell our men to avoid a fight if they could. As our only scout in the region, their information is more important than the death of an annoying bear.

Upon investigating our internal affairs, I decided to make a tradeoff - 1 more turn to research priesthood in exchange for the granary being completed 2 turns faster. This would complete the granary in tandem with the growth of the city.

Some time later, our still alive scout reported something interesting -

Another small tribe! Hopefully they would not be as irritable as the last one our people encountered. Upon reaching them our people were greatly rewarded -

A new technology! Finally, our people could attach large pieces of cloth to their boats! What an ingenious technology!

The free money that the other tribe was also kindly accepted before the people of the village decided to live underground so as to get away from the pollution that the future world would bring. Or so they claimed. I don’t believe what those stupid seers say anyway - with them the end of the world is always right around the corner. Honestly.
We were soon able to discover something ourselves -

Yes, we had uncovered the secrets of the holy man. Now I set the nation to work discovering bronze working so that we could cut down all of the surrounding trees like a truly industrial nation. Nothing like the fresh smell of progress and freshly cut pines.

At this point our nation seemed to be running smoothly. Things were being built, learned, and explored. Upon checking in with some of our explorers, I found that one was trying to do this -

Clearly the man in charge of this outfit would be punished. We have no room for nutcases in our military. I told them to return in the direction of usefulness.

A few years later, a traveler came knocking at the palace door. He told tales of faraway lands, saying that he’d been around the world (he clearly had been hanging around the captain of our western scout for too long), but he told me this -

We are apparently an intelligent people. I just laughed at the man and sent him on his way. His statements didn’t really matter, but it was interesting nonetheless. But I couldn’t keep someone who said he’d been around the world in my palace! Some of the craziness might rub off on me!

And so my time as ruler ended. We’re not in bad shape, but expanding soon might be a good idea. Found some resources, some clam in the northeast and pigs all over the place. Washington’s borders also expanded, so we have access to the stone now. I’ve also deleted all of the orders that units have so Araes has a clean slate.

Too bad the only source of marble we've discovered is so far away.

Also, depending on how peaceful we feel like being, looks like pig could be a major export if we choose to go that route.

That's not very encouraging. At least if we lose it's still Pang's fault.

Taking the turn right away here.

EDIT:

As the turns were uneventful and brief, I'll just say what happened.

Cowered in Washington and killed two warriors and an archer. Unfortunately more arrived during this time. Also, the jerks took out our quarry, and it looks like they're going for the farm next. Suffice to say, things are not looking up. The archer is defending the city, though, so Washington should be well defended for a while (archer units are crazy in fortified cities, stupid longbowmen kept killing my tanks when i used to play)

emailing Araes the file again. We should be able to survive the barbarian onslaught, but we're way behind when it comes to expanding.

P.S. one of the reserves will most likely need to fill in for my next turn, i'll probably be on choir tour when it rolls around again

How ya doing, buddy?

I agree - at this point we probably need copper more than stone. I don't think that Washington can actually reach the stone, though - building a city near Boston will probably be our best bet as long as the Egyptians don't get offended and kill us.

Browsing via DSi, so i'll just quckly say that choir tour continues and if anyone from the backup list wants to take a ten turn shot at the game, they're welcome to it. Otherwise, this turn'll be a pass and it'll go back to Araes.

I'll be back home on Monday, so see you all then.

Done. Not much happened.

Taoism founded by someone else

I built a couple of temples to make the people happier, washington’s good - not sick or cranky anymore

barbarian showed up to the north. an archer.

Essentially i felt that we were well defended enough to survive and set about satisfying the people.

Emailing Araes the file. hopefully we can still keep the game alive.
