I have had the same problem, and I want to go along and say it is the Norton. And it does show up in safe mode.

No. This actually happened to me about...a few days ago. I am lucky because I had ordered a new computer before it happened. I want to say that it might be a virus simply because we both got it around the same time. I am no computer wiz though, so dont quote me on that.
