CPU usage around 100%- winlogon.exe and systemidleprocess both around 50% cpu usage
Today all of a sudden my cpu usage has constantly become around 100% (it never goes back to normal). After I reboot the computer, it happens right after I log in. I've ran multiple spyware programs, registry cleaners, and an antivirus scan and got rid of all problematic files, but the problem still persists. Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?
Thanks. |
Systemidleprocess isn't a real process. It's fine for it to have high CPU (non) usage.
Can you post your Application and System Event Logs in .evt format? (Zip 'em up) Start --> Run --> eventvwr.msc --> right-click category --> Save Log File as |

Here it is.

Can you do a local search for this file : d347bus ? Tell us the results (where the files are located). The error pops up a lot in System logs.
Your Application logs have a huge amount of "Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler" events. Switch it off and see if the problem persists (you probably have Symantec/Norton Antivirus / Internet Security installed). |
It also could have to with temperature maybe? I remember my cpu usage went up alot in the summer when it got hotter in the room my cpu is in, do you normally have AC in the room with your pc?
|
The file is located in c:\windows\system32\drivers.
Do you mean switch it off in the norton antivirus settings (the automatic updates)? Also, it isn't the temperature; the temperature is around 80 degrees in my room and it has been much hotter with no problems (for many years). |
d347bus should be a core component of the dtools optical drive emulator service.
|
Hush and Cool, try one of these two things - one at a time - and see if doing any of these helps your system.
1. Disable Norton automatic updates (or uninstall it entirely in favor of another virus scanner) 2. Uninstall Daemon Tools |
Neither of those worked.
|
Then it doesn't seem to be a software issue. Perhaps it's a problem with hardware, which I'm sorry to say I can't help much on.
Possible culprits - RAM, hard disk |
Try safe mode just in case to load up minimal drivers and the like. See if there still is a problem...
|
Verify that your CPU isn't running hot. You *DID* put heatsync compound on the CPU before you applied the CPU fan, RIGHT?
Are you sure you don't have a Trojan or anything? If you haven't scanned twice, do it again. I've had instances where trojans can effect the usage of WINlogon.exe. |
I have had the same problem, and I want to go along and say it is the Norton. And it does show up in safe mode.
|
But why would it start acting up out of nowhere? Also, how can it be norton if the problem occured in safe mode? I thought programs that aren't necessary for proper system functioning don't function in safe mode?
Did it resolve for you eventually? |
No. This actually happened to me about...a few days ago. I am lucky because I had ordered a new computer before it happened. I want to say that it might be a virus simply because we both got it around the same time. I am no computer wiz though, so dont quote me on that.

Additional Spam: Wow...um....shitty internets for the lose? Ive done the occasional double post, but never a quadruple post O.o |
At the moment, agent.exe is taking up 30% if the cpu and ISUSPM.exe is taking up around 15% of the cpu. Also, there is a program that just says system (not system.exe). Is all of this normal?
|
ISUSPM.exe --> installshield update manager
AGENT.exe --> most probably installshield update agent SYSTEM --> normal Have you uninstalled Norton (Y/N) |
I uninstalled it before but it did nothing so I reinstalled it.
Additional Spam: I checked another forum and someone posted this: --- I think I found the problem. Disabling the COM Port cause the problem to disappear in the last 3 days. The device disabled is NetMos PCI Serial port. Search the web and found someone else that had the same problem. See http://groups.google.com/group/micro...8a176b28569471 --- Could that be the problem? What exactly is that? |
A COM port is a serial port. (IE: USB) It might work, go into your device manager and disable your COM ports. (hold window key+pause/break will take you to System)
|
It didn't change anything. I clicked disable for the communications port icon in the ports section. Are there any other COM ports?
