Seems as though he had a few mental illnessess that provoked his suicide, according to his family.
He was suffering from deep depression, and some kind of paranoia. I'm pretty sad about this, the above have mentioned a lot of my favorite comedy skits from him and all around he seemed like a great guy, shame that not a lot of people may know what he was capable of. Jay Leno even said that he wished he had material that Richard had. Don't know if that helps in how good he was as a comedian, but I figured I'd share it anyway.
