Basically I'd never try to fix a monitor on my own. It's just not the same as with handling memory with memtest +86, or a chkdsk /r on your PC, for example.
Contact the Monitor's manufacter and ask about warranty on the device, and see what they say. It's faster/easier than asking the company you bought the computer from, like if the monitor is from Viewsonic... Jam it back in, in the dark.
