Boobs and... Lightsabers - Soul Calibur 4

Star Wars in Soul Calibur IV news from 1UP.com

First off, thank you to the folks at High Voltage for the following:

Stolen Joke:

"Fuck you, Darth."
And second, the pictures pre-uploaded for convenience and posterity.

Finally, if there WAS a Soul Calibur 4 thread, I could not find it via search. That said, call me crazy, I suspect that sales for Soul Calibur 4 will now be exponentially higher with this announcement. Obvious stated. I mean, you've got tits... you've got a whole other fanbase to cater to... who cares if the game becomes another "Glitch" or "Guard" Calibur? Shit, I bet no one was playing competitively to begin with (stop talking about quality then, fags).

Just, wow, how out of left field was this?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'll see how it plays. Bonus characters in a game I don't really enjoy are rather pointless, since I would of course have to actually want to buy the game in the first place. Again, I do see the merit here... I'm just not hard up on the promotion. But hey, get excited if this is your thing, nothing wrong with that.

How ya doing, buddy?

Yeah, I just read that at IGN. Just... whatever, Namco.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't think I've ever seen anything jump the shark harder than Soul Calibur has. This series went from excellent (SC1) to good (SC2), stayed there (SC3), went to SHIT (SCL) and now will have Darth Vader (in his officially licensed and special made black Zubaz sweatpants) and Yoda using their lightsabers in the most obscene fashion (in a Star Wars fan's mind, anyway) possible: in actual swordfighting. With other people who use SWORDS. And have no concept of the Force.

Did I mention the fact that a lightsaber would break a sword? In fact, the only rational way you could lose in a swordfight with Yoda is if his lightsaber broke off the end of your sword and the broken shard stabbed him in the head.
You're trying to apply sense to a weapon combat game in which the characters shrug off slashes from weapons as if it were nothing.

It's not a matter of whether you can do it, so much as doing it consistently enough for it to be viable. Which, with online play's fucked up play standard, it's much more convenient to pick something that requires less stringent execution. IE (with due respect): Why even mention you can do it when it obviously isn't helping against spammers.

I don't know, Manny. My problem with the game just stems from stupid shit, like the inputs. I really like Setsuka, but Mitsurugi/Taki players can set up a few shoulder macros and do the kind of shit Setsuka needs precision Just Frame inputs for. I really don't like Namco's ideas for controls, it supports the whole "artificial barrier" idea entirely too well.

That was a nuisance in Tekken also. Have you tried buffering? If you want a great place for info on your character and the game mechanics, here's a great spot: Soul Calibur Forums - Setsuka
I mean, I'm sure with time I could get the timing for the presses down, but why bother when you can go to other characters who don't have nearly the amount of frustration to get their A-Game going? It's just a bad decision, it can be circumvented, but it really damages the playing field.

Like you said, it's bad game design. There's always those characters that get held down because of this, but the high comp admires people that still use those characters. (Lei from Tekken) I guess people put themselves through all that input practice for bragging rights. Any other characters you're interested in giving a shot?
I'm sticking with Setsuka, but I just felt like venting some frustration. Mitsurugi is still really good, I just can't fathom why it's a much friendlier learning curve on a character like that, whereas if you want to be different, you have to get run through the ringer of Just Inputs and Buffering.

The dumb ass EWGF type mentality Namco has always bothers the fuck out of me. I mean, to use an extreme, you'll see great players in Tekken 4 who don't play Jin... but when you go to where the money matters, it's still the fucking Jin show. Again, that's an extreme, but I think Namco could learn a thing or two from the ideas that David Sirlin was making prominent in the scene about inputs and artificial barriers.

What really hurts my perception of the game is that SC4 has a polarized scene, with people playing online and then people going head to head in person. I'm still waiting to see what the verdict is on SC4, whereas I could go to GGPO or VF5 and deal with entirely less hassle.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Isn't Setsuka some cheap bitch. Last I remember, she had low attacks that came out in like, 6 frames.
You're retarded, though that's no surprise from you, Zeal-wannabe. Now, before you go fagging off at the mouth about "hah hah, I got you because I'm internets trolls", Just Inputs are required to get her useful and viable shit to come out, as are buffering 214 or 236 into some Just Frame nonsense.

But you already fucking failed the instant you threw out the word "cheap." The fuck outta here.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
