The last few day's i've only been listening to Arsis's new album and I have to say that it so far it is an amazing record and probably the best metal album released since well their last album in 2004. They are the hottest band around these days IMO.
It is musically tighter then there last releases which seemed to be impossible as the interlacing and synching of the guitar and drums is amazing. It also seems that James has improved on his technical abilitys and busts out far more memorable and WTF did he just do that solos then he did in " Celebration of Guilt ". Even when they bust out the more melodramatic parts like in " I Speak through Shadows " it still comes off amazing and not like the rehased crap most bands sound like. Also what they did with alice coopers " roses on white lace " they do the same on this album with Depeche modes " The things you said" by making a cover song that outdoes the original by leaps and bounds. It's definetely on par with Celebration of Guilt, if not better. I definetely recommend everyone check out this album. There's nowhere I can't reach.

You need to check out their albums, that is where they kick ass. " A diamond for Disease" isn't that great as it was made for a ballet so it comes off monotonous and boring. Although there two albums " A celebration of guilt " And " United In Regret " are two of the best metal albums made in the past 10-15 years, seriously. There one of those metal bands were you get the full impact of how sheerly awesome they are by listening to them over and over and the album in it's entirety. They aren't an " individual song band " like so many metal bands This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Just one look at Darklink's avatar and sig is easy to determine that he really doesn't know jackshit about metal, espically in regards to viking.

It does such a horrible job at making fun of Metal IMO. It's written to appeal to american fan's who've only scraped the surface of the Euro Metal scene. The problem here isn't what are musical tastes are, but the fact that your arguing about what Viking metal is with two members on the forum who've established themselves as " viking metal heads".
I mean your main source is wikipedia for gods sake, a user edited dictionary. Wikipedia is the last place one should look for crediabilty about genres and what makes them that particular genre. Amon Amarth are not Viking metal and anyone who has entrenched themselves in the genre even a little bit will tell you this as well. No genre is ever based soley on lyrical content, if this notion applied to music in general. Then one could easily call Iron Maiden a Black metal band because of numerous references to satanic themes in their songs. Viking metal has a very unique sound, but it is one of those sounds which is really a bitch to describe and all one can do is really point you to artists that represent that genre and you will see that Amon Amarth are a far cry from viking metal. I was speaking idiomatically.
