So a bunch of new info all of a sudden spewed all over the net about this game. All of this information can apparently be found in the latest GameInformer, but most of the stuff written here is stuff I just copied and pasted from random websites that I found:
|
Quote:
• Two different campaigns:
• One campaign focusing on Nathan Hale across 1950's USA invaded by the Chimera
• One campaign focusing on a squad of soldiers, supports 2 players offline, 8 players Online Co-op
• Online Multiplayer (dedicated servers) supporting 60 people
• Classes for Online, templates include Heavy, Special Ops, Medic
• Mobile phone quality headset voice transfer
• Partial Randomized Geometry in level spots that change with each play through
• Boss fights in FPS gaming “finally done right”
• New vehicles including Chameleon (Stalker with cloak)
• Insane stat tracking & Community features coupled with MyResistance.net
• Release: Fall 2008

Obviously one of the bigger announcements is the 60 player online matches and the 8-player campaign co-op. Here’s some more information about those things:
|
Quote:
• The multiplayer will not be a focus on fast and furious gameplay, but more on squad vs. squad for strategic and tactical matches.
• When initially logging into an online match, the game will divide players into smaller four-to-eight man lobbies for each squad, where the squads may then communicate among one another and camaraderie.
• Differing game modes may have squads be tasked with particular objectives.
• Careful level design aims to deliver intense combat zones with small team conflicts that flow within the arena of larger battle.
• Dedicated servers coupled with stat servers for faster matchmaking.
• Full-featured profile pages through myresistance.net will incorporate social networking concepts.
• Open clan and party systems to promote the community aspect. No player invites needed.

I really enjoyed Resistance: FOM, even though I must admit I havent played the game in MONTHS. I'm a little skeptical about some of the things they are gunning for, such as mobile phone quality communication. I haven't really seen anything come close to that yet.
Still, this is Insomniac we're talking about. Those guys are fucking robots, consistently putting out nothing but high quality.
I like how they are taking the whole 'class' concept (I assume ala CoD4?) and combining that with the implementation of squads. If executed properly, it could really be a pretty sweet idea - kind of like a team within a team.
Anyways, what do you guys think?
Jam it back in, in the dark.
