From what I know, the quality/brand of the Mini-DV tapes isn't as important as it was with analog tapes. The overall recording quality should be perfect when you'll do editing, unless the tape had a defect. The thing I'm thinking about is that cheap tapes might last not as long as more costly ones, but even then, you should burn your movies on DVD after the editing, so you won't need to use the tapes as archives. My tapes are pretty much all of the JVC brand, and footages I've recorded 5 years ago are still perfect when I watched them recently.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
