Machinarium
![]() Not sure how many are already familiar with it, but Machinarium is the upcoming new point & click adventure title from Amanita Design, the Czech developer of the beautiful and bizarre Samorost and Samorost 2 Storyline in a nutshell:
streeeetch:
HD trailer Website Game is out now. Available on the developer's site, Steam and a number of other dl stores. LOOK IT UP. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()

Nowadays Gametrailers.com requires a log-in to be able to download, but the HD trailer is available for streaming in flash, quicktime and wmv formats as well as download.
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |

Slight FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF because they're coming out with a gorgeous retail version in some European countries, with soundtrack CD and Samorost 2 as well.
Machinarium (inkl. Samorost 2): Amazon.de: Games I'll probably play the dl version I've preordered and try for a physical copy later. The game will probably not have any written dialogue, so german menus wouldn't be a bother. Or they make a small english translated print later. Who knows. Still. Do want ;_; I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
They have benign publishers. No one elsewhere would buy it anyway. Most of the point & click games come from Germany and Russia these days.

Just got my download link for the game and soundtrack in the email. Fuck yes, I can't wait to get home and play this. Awesome timing, just in time for the weekend too and I just finished Ninja Gaiden Black last night, with not a game to play. FAN-TASTIC.
EDIT: Good god their poor little server is overloaded. I'm getting 15-24kb/s at best ![]() Additional Spam: Game is pretty awesome so far. It looks absolutely gorgeous. They're still using flash, but the animation is just beyond everything. There is hundreds of little minute animations going on in every screen and it's really like a picture book beautifully come to life. Everything oozes character and cheeky humor. The slapstick is really something. Control and interface feels like a natural progression from Samorost (where you only clicked on items for actions and never moved your character or examined anything), with you moving your little robot guy around with a mouse click, and clicking on items for actions, taking one screen at a time. You can only interact with objects that are in your reach, so you can't just sweep the screen for items of interest, you first have to walk up to them before you even know if it's usable. It takes some getting used to, but does not feel counter-intuitive at all. Items you pick up will go into your inventory, where you can combine and use them as you see fit. I love how he eats everything to store them. You can stretch your character to make him taller or shorter, in order to reach higher or lower locations and it works beautifully hand in hand with the simplified interaction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As suspected before, there's no dialogue or written text, everything is portrayed in speech and thought bubble animations. The amount of little idle animations on both the main character and the world around him is just amazing, it's all so wonderfully charming. You even get to see some of the untold backstory if you leave him still long enough and he starts remembering things about him and his girlfriend, how they met and stupid things they pulled off when they were little. It's so cute I could cry. Oh and to get an idea of the detail on screen, here's a fullsize screenshot: Spoiler:
EDIT3: And the music is wonderful too! EDIT4: [19:55:58] <Q-chan> omg lurkie [19:56:04] <Q-chan> if you get stuck [19:56:10] <Q-chan> there's a hint system [19:56:13] <Q-chan> and a solution [19:56:17] <Q-chan> and to see the solution [19:56:35] <Q-chan> you have to open this book by playing a tiny side scrolling game with a key and a lock [19:56:35] <Q-chan> http://www.gamingforce.org/staff/Qwa...hinarium10.png [19:56:44] <Q-chan> and then it unlocked it and you see it in pictures [19:56:46] <Q-chan> so adorable [19:56:47] <a_worker> GASP [19:56:49] <a_worker> oh god that is so cute. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]()

Reason: Editing forever

It eventually speeded up and I got it in about 90 minutes total. Originally it estimated it'd take past 3 hours. FELIPE NO ![]() |
BEST REWARD:
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Just finished it. Short and sweet. Ending was kind of abrupt, but a completely charming little journey. I hope they make a sequel like they did with Samorost, as the world is great.
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Spoiler:
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I'd love to see a sequel. There's plenty of room for more adventures, or at least more stories set in the same universe.
Samorost got a wonderful sequel and so could Machinarium~ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Aw hell yeah, cranking this with coworker all evening. This had been a terrible monday so far but now it's looking sweet.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
