No, it doesn't stack, it's just there so I know WHICH Mouther's turn you stop being dazed after since some of their attacks key on whether you're dazed or not.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I was too busy crackin' up at your wonderful magical arrow that can slowly kill its target over a period of 6-8 weeks barring any high Endurance rolls.

That, and the mouthers require about 10 rolls each every damn turn so by the time I'm done with the crunchy numbers part of the post I'm ready for the 4-day break that waiting for Acer's turn affords me

Damn, the last time anybody caught a disease up in this bitch it was Argumentus. I gotta fix that.

To the contrary, the contest was founded on the assumption that you'd all hound Acer into posting.

No, he did not, because Acer's post did not actually enter the game thread until after midnight despite having created it in in the OCD thread several minutes earlier.

(Arguably no one could have won because Acer's post was created and then deleted several times in a sequence of events I am choosing not to consider suspicious at all*, so the actual timing of Acer's response post is kind of up in the air.)

*because I really prefer not to speculate on the notion that someone would cheat at D&D. That would be sad.

So, small errata update:

The Cleric power Righteous Brand has been nerfed, but not in a way that actually effects Gheth. Originally it provided a bonus to ally attacks equal to your STR mod, but now it simply provides +3. Happily, Gheth's STR mod is +3 so uhhh this reminder is kind of unnecessary!

Zerg, Guardian Arrow appears to be safe; replaced the crop from Dragon with a proper power card.

This has been your March update for "Pang, Why Have You Crippled Me?"

ah yes, spitting cobra stance, the power you need to be within 5 squares of an enemy to use

you were totally going to get tons of mileage out of that Zerg

Additional Spam:
Huh, so it looks like the nerf only affects Paragon to Epic-tier (ab)use of Righteous Brand then, eh? I can't imagine you'll be using at-wills at that level though, since you're bound to have some real sweet encounters and dailies by then...
Hey, even at level 1 you could have +5 to STR if you wanted to. And even at Epic battles can come down to At-Wills if they drag out long enough.

1. How high up is the second storey?
2. Is there anything that bar the windows (ie grills) which would physically prevent a fastball special from succeeding?
3. Fastball special, Gheth and Cal! Acrobatics or athletics?
1. About 15 feet, but —

2. Well no, but there's no need to —

3. There's nothing Acrobatic about straight-up hurling a dude. Athletics.

With your gear you're at least 190 lbs so that's going to be, uh, interesting to try.

If I wanted a character who was completely flaming I'd just bring Bob back

(Yeah, I'm not drawing up blueprints for the mansion, just wing it)

Oh also! New houserule, wanna encourage ritual use a little bit: instead of spending components on ritual casting, you can pay a ritual's component cost by expending a healing surge. Save a little money, take a little risk.

Obviously this offer doesn't apply to matters where it would be massively unbalancing, like Enchant Weapon or any other ritual with a sliding cost.

The component cost of Alchemy or Creation is almost always equal to the cost in gold of buying the item outright, so making these practices component-free or component-reduced would be akin to just pouring gold bricks over your heads.

(I mean, without the attendant risk of concussion.)

What's to stop Gheth from making healing potions for free, selling them at 20%, and retiring on the literally infinite income stream thereby created?

The houserules aren't really intended to make things easier (although some of them surely do have this effect); they're intended to make otherwise-useless things more useful. And when all your resources are useful, that makes a more interesting game for everybody.

And as you note, it's extremely simple for me to compensate for any perceived reduction in difficulty.

I know it's been a while since we've done a skill challenge (last time was on board the Rosy Dawn, I think!), so if you've got any basic questions about how they work feel free. Basically I just need each of you to make three skill checks, each of which you'll justify as being in some way relevant to the situation.

Trying a new system this time, it's a little more flexible and hopefully a little more fast-paced.

How ya doing, buddy?

Well that entirely depends on what you're trying to do, doesn't it? I mean being on a horse makes Stealth kind of tricky but I can see it being handy for some forms of Athletics.

Just go with what makes sense to you and I'll apply bonuses/penalties as appropriate. You won't really know for sure what worked until the challenge is over.

Eek. Skill challenges, the bane of optimized combat characters!

Guys, just go ahead and make all three checks in one post, that way there's less waiting around for other people to take their turns.

Rearranged it according to your liking now.

We can also make a straight strength check for this, right, Pang? Or does all strength fall under endurance or athletics now?
Well, it is a skill challenge; it'd be kind of goofy to include ability checks. STR checks only really come into play for "brute strength" sorts of applications; holding open a portcullis, kicking down a door, that sort of thing. Use skills unless none of the skills reasonably apply: holding shut a dragon's jaws requires you to be strong, for example, but there's nothing especially athletic about it.

don't worry too much Zerg I know a guy that can deliver you three natural 20s guaranteed

Psst Pang. In Skill Challenges, do we get to do "Aid Another" just as we do in regular encounters?
Yeah, you can choose to do Aid Another instead of making one of your three skill checks, if you think that would be more effective. I should have made that clear at the outset, so if any of the three of you who have made your checks want to rescind one for an Aid in retrospect go ahead.

Athletics = 5 + [indeterminate but doubtful Denny has 18 athletics
Denny has no training in anything and he's level 1 besides, so all his skill bonuses are essentially as his ability bonuses. Ergo his Athletics bonus is 4.

Which is still better than Cal, sadly

Also, a Skill Challenge is a form of encounter like any other, so by all means use any of your items / powers that have utility outside combat! Glock has a Lucky Charm, Gordok has Skittering Sneak, etc etc
