and for that matter, why a monster twice as big as any of us is capable of evading almost every attack we throw at it
Evading? You are interpreting the term "miss" too literally.

This is a "miss":

But this is also a "miss", if you follow

And so our friend the ogre is making good use of this second interpretation. His actual Reflex defense is relatively poor as you'd expect. It's all a question of puzzling out a given monster's strengths and weaknesses. An ogre, inherently, is hardy and durable but also sluggish and stupid. So it's down to making attacks against the proper defenses.

The "battle of wits" was when I demanded your loot or your lives and Deni picked your lives

I won that one

You guys are gonna get Brigid trapped between a wall and a dumb place. Still, all this strategery is filling me with... what is this strange feeling

is it pride

Nooooooope, allies don't block ranged shots. Presumably they wait for an opening to fire through his armpit or something.

Ah, but they've encountered this precise conundrum before.

The dragon ogre is 2 squares wide.

The stairs are hallway is 2 squares wide.

(and even if it were a narrow hallway, the ogre could squeeze )

Grants +1 AC to any friendly inside it. Not that he needs it, he's already rocking an AC 2 points higher than the ogre. But do I complain about missing? No, I do not. I am stoic.

Whether or not Brady gets opportunity attacked has little to do with your location. The elves didn't trigger opportunity strikes because once they entered Gabriel's range they didn't leave it. You get opportune'd for fleeing enemies, not approaching them. If Brady were to go stand next to Brigid, or to enter the room with Mots, he'd catch a knife in the back. Otherwise he's fine.

I don't really see how he's going to flank the elf, though. You and Deni are flanking it, but there's not really space for a second flank pair in that clusterfuck.

Of course this is all theoretical since by the time Brady's turn comes around the situation will presumably be a little different

does facing not really matter?
Nah, the rules don't address facing at all because eventually you get into situations where you have to determine which direction an amorphous jelly or a man-eating plant is "facing". It's not really worth the bookkeeping it would require.

How ya doing, buddy?

We can get two movement actions and one minor in a turn, right?
Yes.

Also, it is possible for Brigid to overturn that table for use as cover, right?
It's a chair, but yes. Normally it would be a little silly but for a halfling I suppose it's plausible cover.

There's no convenient place for this property in the wikipage, so I'll just paste it here. It's not a power you need to refer back to often, but I'm just letting you know what you've got.

Inescapable Weapon: Each time you miss a target with this weapon,
you gain a cumulative +1 bonus (up to the weapon’s
enhancement bonus) to your next attack roll with this
weapon against the same target. The bonus ends if you
attack a different target or when you hit.

So it's a +2 sword which means it goes up to a maximum of +4 after two successive misses.

Personally I'm just jealous of the 4' tall DM screen and the 18-inch miniatures.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Firing ranged spells past the ogre and at the elves just gives a -2 because they're using the ogre's fat ass as cover. Sadly there appears to be no chance that a miss will hit the ogre instead.

There's no provision for using Diplomacy once you've already entered combat. You can always Intimidate, though, and Gabe's your powerhouse for scaring the shit out of people.

Honestly if I set fire to every piece of scenery Bob threw a fire spell onto you wouldn't be able to see a damn thing for all the fire overlays. I just operate on the principle that it's wonderful, magical fire and doesn't burn anything you don't explicitly ask it to burn.

As long as you can see a space, you can make it the center of a burst spell. It's like tossing a grenade, the area you try to hit is much smaller than the actual effect.

I was speaking idiomatically.

It's a move action. You're moving (albeit upward).

As for the ogre you have access to his upperleft quadrant so I'd allow it.

Did the ogre seriously just nimbly dodge a fireball?

Not so much "nimbly dodged" as "watched it fly overhead like a beautiful bird in the summertime".

Ain't no Reflex score low enough to help you when you roll a 3

Pang, what are the chances of Bob being able to blow a hole in the outside wall big enough for Arg to stab people through with his Fire Burst spell?
It's just fire, it's not literally an explosion.

I don't know where the party would get any explosives!

Kicked Elmoogle out of the player queue. He hasn't posted in a month, and if he's too busy to review a CD he's too busy to play. Booted out Magus-Cie as well, he hasn't posted since October.

So we are, at least, two steps closer to AcerBanditry.

Yeah, I don't see any need to force people to lock down to a certain concept far in advance, especially when there will always be more options by the time they actually jump in. Druids, Barbarians, Bards and so on are coming in March and it would be sad to miss out on those because somebody "promised" to play a Fighter last August.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Rule clarification: The ogre didn't activate an attack of opportunity because he stayed within my striking distance, yeah? So I can move within his span of attack, so long as I don't step outside it?
Yeah, you trigger AOOs by leaving an enemy's reach. Entering their reach is just dangerous for all the ordinary obvious reasons.

(also he was only shifting anyways)

I remind everyone that all of you but Argumentus are asleep (or, in knk's case, engaging in thorough method acting) so don't do anything until Brady does.

OKAY OR NOT
