regarding keeping tube tops up...

uhm - so since I'm fairly new here, I'm really hoping this isn't an idiotic question and you all won't hate me for it, and also that this is even the right forum for this question (Mods, move this thing if it's wrong sorry sorry...) but this is the only forum I'm a member of that has a large enough female population that I'd get enough decent answers this question that I'd have options on one to consider...heh:

What simple modifications could help keep up a tube top up that doesn't really like to by itself? It's already the smallest size possible shirt, so no, it's not a problem with the size, but the top elastic band seems to have some trouble staying in place i.e. it slips a lot so I'm constantly pulling it up to avoid public embarrassment. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this (the slipping, that is)?

...sorry the question's so dumb, but it's kinda bothering me that I can't wear this shirt heh *blush*

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I live in the state furthest south in the USA that you can get so it's pretty much year-round summer (though there are the occasional colds as in recently) and I hate it. However, the question was more of a "for future reference" thing. Though maybe bare shoulders and cold would be something of a nice feeling...for the three seconds before I contract hypothermia...

On the other hand, tube tops with the proper layering can make for some pretty decent outfits. And no one said this was going to be worn entirely outdoors, either. ^_~ Plenty of winter evening gowns are still strapless, and they're mostly for the indoor activities anyway, right?

Ever think that tube top + skirt == dress? hehehe Funny that you say this, though, really, because I have only 1 tube top and only bought it-meh-about two months ago for dirt cheap (Two months ago, the temperature here was still hitting the nineties...) after years of decrying the particular clothing after realizing that the particular cut on the top was pretty specific to tube tops only, at least in the town that I live in (college town therefore 90% of all clothing is purely trendbased therefore unappealing to me). And the thing is only plain black, so theoretically, the straps idea is very manageable and I can think of some pretty stylish (in my mind) ways that the idea can be applied.

I didn't get the tube top because it's a tube top but more because I liked the way top cut shaped my upper half. I don't think I'd ever wear it (as indeed I never have yet) without layering...

I think the elastic was just never quite there in the first place hehe. I've only worn it twice and both times it was a bit - er - slippery. But the thing was mad cheap, so I wasn't really expecting super Prada quality or anything of it.

Thanks everyone who contributed ideas! ^_^ Looks like the straps and the tape are the way to go.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh no...somehow I'm getting the feeling that perhaps what I've been calling a tube top all along isn't actually a tube top. This happens a lot. Sorry all T_T *bow*

The type of shirt I've been speaking of this entire time is one like [this]. Guess it could just be called a "strapless shirt"... (and no that's not the shirt I bought)

um. oops. *blush* Suggestions still work though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's why you just have to make your own fashion! ^_^ Then, you won't have to worry about what "fashion" is the next month when it totally changes because [insert dumb celebrity-who-there-is-nothing-at-all-to-be-celebrated-about's name here] wore whatever and everyone else was too blind to see really how ugly it is but instead heaps praises/lists the positives to justify the ugly thereby creating a trend (deathtoleggings). ick?

The tube top/whatever it's called makes for good layering for how I like to wear my clothes. That's just how it goes heh ^_^

Strange. I must be trying on all the wrong things.

The strapless dresses that I've ever worn have usually had the same slipping problem on me and many that I know. And this particular tube top in question does go all the way down. So it's not that overly skanktastic I don't think. Especially because, again, I wont' wear anything strapless (or strap-py, even) without something over it i.e. a jacket. I was thinking of tube tops that DO go all the way down paired with a skirt equaling a dress when asking the question. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Those examples you posted are a bit...erm...extreme, ne? O_o I've never seen anyone dressed like that in public. Guess I'm going to all the wrong places to see that type of clothing too...

Is this supposed to imply that those who do wear tube tops are retarded? O_o I totally agree that in certain forms and fashions and the way that tube tops are commonly worn aren't particularly modest, but I'm finding it a bit strange that this particular type of top is being so heavily regarded as "for whores only" when I think, when worn with the right accessories or dressings, be you fat or skinny, it can be very stylish, even in a business setting. Just keep your jacket on.

I guess it's just all in how you wear it. I'm not particularly thin myself, but I'm not totally popping out of this top from either end (again, see, "it goes down all the way" up there). It fits me fine. It just slips. Maybe it's the breasts after all. By the next time I'm wearing this top, I'll have since considered the reasonable suggestions previously provided (or to be provided) and taken it. For me, this isn't impractical as I enjoy modifying clothing so I (or whoever I'm modifying it for) look better and can enjoy wearing it. Yes, a weirdo, I know, but it's not really any big deal for me to do something simple that I enjoy so that I can enjoy. ^_^

So, yea, again, thanks all for your suggestions...I guess a mod can close this if they so feel or let the discussion continue (I honestly never forsaw it going into a full out discussion of the apparent controversy of tube tops hehehe) but I've gotten my answer.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Oh. I see. Oopsies...sorry Sassafrass...T_T In that light, I also didn't mean to/wasn't meaning to/don't mean to imply that you're implying that people who wear tube tops are retarded. I was just wondering what exactly the question meant. Thanks, Xardion.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
