New Super Mario Bros.

Platform: Game
Developed by: Sonic Team
Published by: Atari
RRP: Money
Money when: USA - OUT NOW, Europe - June 30, Aus/NZ - OUT NOW

Okay, so the name is pretty stupid and the box art looks a bit like spew, but it's an actual new 2D-ish Super Mario platformer. New Super Mario Bros.. new.. Super.. Mari... oh. So YES. GBA sits in the corner and cries. "Guys, guys, I have Mario Pinball Land, have a go, come awwn". Despite the name, it'll be a lot like the old Super Mario Bros. No talking whirly bird rocket powered onion flavour Super Soakers here. This game won't even have speech, no WAH HOO LET'SA GO or painful groaning as Mario's kneecaps shatter under his own weight after jumping on a Goomba.

NO. You'll be able to wear a Koopa Troopa's shell and crash into everything though. And there's now Xbox mushrooms that make you grow REALLY bloody huge for a few seconds so you can breakdance on the Princess. There's also a two player mode, where you race to the finish of every level. Perhaps for pirate gold. There's no boss levels in this mode.

UUMF.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Throwin' these guys into the mix with GDC impressions.

Quote:
The overworld looks a lot like a Mario Party board at first glance. There's eight worlds, but it isn't a linear progression. Each world is filled with branching paths and secret levels/powerups. Within each individual level there are three special coins hidden. On the overworld some paths will be blocked, requiring a certain number of coins be paid to open the path. I had to pay five that gave me access to a brief game of chance that ended up awarding me four free lives.
Quote:
I only played the game's first five levels, but I was extremely impressed with the amount of imagination they showed. Here's a list of things I encountered, in just those first five levels:

# A ring that made eight red coins appear in a level when you jumped through it. Collect them fast enough for a 1-up, or another powerup.
# Giant mushrooms that act like big trampolines.
# A new blue shell powerup that allows Mario to spin along the ground and dispatch enemies Koopa-style.
# A platform that sends Mario into the air in a liesurely spin, like when you jumped on the skyguys in Super Mario 64.
# A super mushroom that grew Mario to screen-filling size. The surprise was that the mre destruction you caused, the more 1ups you earned when shrunk back down to normal size.

All of this was just within the first half-world.
Seeeexy, let me touch you Maaaario. Nooooo.

This delay's just so E3 visitors from overseas can't buy it while they're there (America still gets it a few weeks before the rest of the world) >=\

Whoops, looks like the American release has been pushed back by a week. Again!

I was speaking idiomatically.

Some new screens at International Gas Network.

Mario breaks Luigi's spine just to jump up in the hope of being shot in the face. Such violence.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Bob's House of Hardware has just updated with four new .. New Super Mario Bros. videos. The castle looks amazing! =o But the third video spoils the deep, emotional introduction sequence, watch out.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

This is why you guys should always read the latest Nintendo newsletter. Every month you learn that creatures from Ganon are pretty bad, also that Link is pretty rad. It won't help you with NSMB at all but that doesn't matter!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The only time I read manuals these days are when I need something to read on the can.

IT DIDN'T? I think your copy is broken! You might need to call Nintendo and they will glue it back together with a purple glue stick!
