[PS3] PlayStation 3 Discussion Thread

The Motorstorm box art is pretty cool, it's certainly going to catch the eye more than the Japanese one. The Ridge Racer one fits really well with the side bar, but it just seems so depressing for a game that's about impossible powerslides, helicopters at every single turn and goofy announcers talking about rolling in jelly or whatever for no reason when you pull into the lead.

There's also NBA with its useless huge 1080p logo. I hope this doesn't become standard, leave that shit for the back of the box. =\

Well PS3's going to be living off Xbox 360 ports for a while (or rather, the lifetime of the system). Every system has a pretty rough start during the first year, the 360 had a hell of a lot of touched up current gen stuff (Tony Hawk, Gun, Tomb Raider, Blazing Angels, blah blah blah), the Wii's already got a slew of PS2 ports lined up for launch. The DS nearly died from a lack of games, the PS2 had a confusing time with upgraded N64/Dreamcast stuff. Aaaand so on.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

GT's a port of a PS2 game and Oblivion is a port of a game from a rival machine, so obviously Microsoft used their vast amounts of devil cash on the developer (that is why you can replace the S with a $ for a clever, original result worthy of pats on the back) to ensure the game would look worse. Wait so they're calling the new controller SIXAXIS? For some reason I started humming the Bots Master theme song and replacing BOTS MASTER with SIXAXIS. Not sure why, but it doesn't work too well. This cartoon will never take off!

Sigma's a port of Ninja Gaiden Black. With all new super fun happy slide fancy graphics. I think there was a mention somewhere that it'd have an even easier difficulty setting to choose from, too. That's about it!

$999.95 ($780 US) is the official price for the PS3 in Australia, yes. They announced that months ago. $120 first party games, too ($90 US). Game companies completely raping the exchange rate is nothing new though!

Midnight launch was a complete disaster here apparently.

I guess that's what happens when you think you can get away with charging ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS and not spend a cent on advertising it. Lower the price Sony, for the love of God. There is no reason at all to completely ignore the exchange rate and whack on another $250. The likes of EA aren't helping either, with $120 price tags on their PS3 games when the 360 versions are now $30 cheaper.

Oh ho, I knew something was coming soon. Because I'm very magic. Also because Sony just recently started offering both MotorStorm and Resistance for free with the purchase of a PS3 here. But then we are being charged $850 US for the system. So there had to be more exciting things planned somewhere else.

Well that could be like when stores try and advertise PS2 games that have just been re-released as Platinum/Greatest Hits.

"KINGDOM HEARTS 2! ONLY $30! WAS $100! LIMITED TIME ONLY!"
And they'll print it in the catalogue using the original box art so people are like "holy fuck that's cheap better go get it before the sale's over" so they rush down to the store, kick down the doors, kick down the sales staff, only to find the game sitting there in its new budget box art. "BUT THIS IS THE NORMAL PRICE" "No no, limited time!" So they'll kick some soccer balls in the sporting department with fury.
