Maybe he's just confused, as he seems to think every game has to have Mario in it:
Miyamoto: Oh, they make tennis games? We need Mario Tennis.
Miyamoto: Look, a racing game. We need Mario Racing!
Miyamoto: What if they make a game about a vacuum cleaner and ghosts? We had better make one first, but let's use Luigi instead.
Miyamoto: Great, games have time travel now. Guess it's time to make a chronologically-challenged Mario Game.
Miyamoto: No, we can't have GTA on Nintendo because then we'd have to make a game where Mario beats people over the head with a baseball bat, and that's where I draw the line.
I strongly feel that a variety of games can only help Nintendo. After all, if they're worried about brand image they still have their 1st-part games that people associate them with. The GTA series is on PC, Xbox, PS2... I think that people associate GTA with Rockstar, not a gaming platform...
Jam it back in, in the dark.
