Take Two(GTA) and Wii

Well, apparently Nintendo is currently talking to Take Two, the owning company of Rock Star Games, renown for their series Grand Theft Auto.

Rumors are flying everywhere as Regi mentioned he'd like all big hits to be on the Wii, GTA included.

While I've never been much for GTA, the idea of smacking people with a Wii-bat, or weilding a chainsaw with the chain's whirl emitted from the Wiimote is sounding very... amusing :) Even if I decided not to buy it, I'd at least have to give it a try out of morbid curiosity.

In addition, this would also help change Nintendo's iamge from kids only to a more diversified system, and likely attract other more M related games.

It's a "meh" thing by itself... But Bully on the Wii? I'd get that. That'd be hot! (To death.)

EDIT: Well, assuming the game's good, but I have high hopes.

Ahh, you beat me to it! ... well actually I was just going to post this in the Wii topic, but yeah whatever.

I'm not a big fan of the series, but the games are pretty cool, and one of the extremely few to have done free roaming right.

I remember Miyamoto saying "Mario will never beat up the hookers" or something like that. I guess money talks.

I've been considering buying a Wii and while playing a GTA with Wii's controller may sound interesting the controls of GTA on PS are almost perfect for me, so I'd put my money this time in the improved graphics rather than the gameplay.

Are you sure that he's just not referring to the Mario franchise? I mean, RE4 was more gruesome than the GTA series, and that was a huge GameCube hit.

Infernal Monkey Sep 20, 2006 09:32 PM

I guess anything will be better than their GameCube support which consisted of;

and

then finally

Maybe the Wii will get two Smuggler's Run games!

The way I understood the quote was that Nintendo wouldn't have such a controversial game on their systems. Hot Coffee, the Haitians racism controversy, Jack Thompson bashing it, you name it.

Omnislash124 Sep 20, 2006 10:09 PM

Meh, I wouldn't be interested anyways. Something about the premise of GTA just drives me away...I dunno.

Infernal Monkey Sep 20, 2006 10:12 PM

Well a large part of the game is about driving away (from cops).

The B0mb Sep 20, 2006 11:14 PM

Huh, that could be pretty cool. I remember when there was suppose to be a GTA 64. Nothing ever came of it. Not even a screenshot. I watched it move further and further down the release list.

Let's not forget this could be something a little more, eh, Nintendoish:

GTA on Wii would be fantastic because then I wouldn't have to buy any other new system.

Nah nah that game needs HD and surround sound to be experienced properly!

Maybe he's just confused, as he seems to think every game has to have Mario in it:

Miyamoto: Oh, they make tennis games? We need Mario Tennis.
Miyamoto: Look, a racing game. We need Mario Racing!
Miyamoto: What if they make a game about a vacuum cleaner and ghosts? We had better make one first, but let's use Luigi instead.
Miyamoto: Great, games have time travel now. Guess it's time to make a chronologically-challenged Mario Game.
Miyamoto: No, we can't have GTA on Nintendo because then we'd have to make a game where Mario beats people over the head with a baseball bat, and that's where I draw the line.

I strongly feel that a variety of games can only help Nintendo. After all, if they're worried about brand image they still have their 1st-part games that people associate them with. The GTA series is on PC, Xbox, PS2... I think that people associate GTA with Rockstar, not a gaming platform...

Deguello Sep 21, 2006 02:09 PM

It was George Harrison who said "Mario will never beat up hookers" at the Nintendo E3 Press Conference in 2003. I know because I was there. I believe he was talking about several letters he got from morons who want Super Mario to be bloody and swear-filled so they can feel better about themselves or something. Or something like that.

How anybody can interpret that to mean Nintendo didn't want GTA is up for debate, but that debate would probably be focused on fact-checking and reading comprehension.

My fault for giving an erroneous quote, I just type it off the top of my head. However, speculative's post just have made it worthy.
