I spent an hour or two fighting goblins in FF IV Advance trying to get the Goblin summon. I ended up resetting since it was towards the beginning of the game and I didn't want to be that over-levelled. Despite playing through FF IV several times before then, I'd never heard about those normal monsters that drop summons. I gave up eventually, and then by pure luck obtained the Cockatrice summon from a random battle during Rydia's trial in the Cave of Trials. Never managed to get any of the others though.
