The freezer thing will often work. I've used it. However, it will work for a few hours at most. Then the drive is just as dead as before. The clicking sound is a classic sign of dead drive. Don't ask me why the freezer thing often works. I understand hard drives to a limited extent, but the freezer thing makes no sense to me.
On the plus side, most HDD manufacturers are very, very good at honouring their warranties, and you shouldn't have much trouble obtaining an RMA. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
