You could always invest in a network adapter and an IDE hard drive and get HDLoader working. If your modchip supports DEV1/DEV2 mode then you should be able to get a lot of games, including GT4, working from the hard drive.
All of which assumes this is the chunky PS2. Jam it back in, in the dark.
