Guys I totally didn’t fall asleep in the middle of writing this.

3 points: 365 Days of Pointy Hats and Magic
2 points: Mummification
1 point: Changing Seasons
Just Missed: The Boy from Chichen Itza, The Caged Bird

As another week, it’s pretty good. I haven’t felt this firm about a point spread in a long while.

I’m really curious to see what the context for The Boy from Chichen Itza is. It’s probably meant to be humorous and nothing more, but I somehow found it to be incredibly morbid. Really cool, but other than the lyrics, nothing notable.

Continuation of the Dream: I really, really liked this tune when I was listening to it; solid melody, well varied instrumental, this song had a lot to show off. But then the slow section ended with that and that ridiculous build with the drumroll and everyone comes onto the stage dancing and augghghghbwrgpjffodpmdfopbrbdwmw jesus christ. This song would’ve ended perfectly if they just extended the slow section and left it at that.

Both The Caged Bird and Changing Seasons are tunes that, for me at least, probably wouldn’t sound at all different had the vocal parts been removed; that is, the vocal is more in the background than the instrumental. I mean what, the woman speaking French very softly pretty much amounts to most of the actual vocal in the latter piece. Can’t complain though, the instrumentals are pretty badass, particularly the soundscape in Caged bird and especially the funk/disco stylings of Seasons (plus that bass line omg).

And of course the obligatory Celtic sounding tune. DORCHADAS is well done, if not a bit serviceable.

April Fool Song: Love the 80s sounds in this. Also the girl singing sounds very angry most of the time for some reason. Especially loved the ending that was over a minute of something not related to this tune at all why Yamaoka why

Oh my god Mummification is not only completely awesome but it’s also educational, not unlike Schoolhouse Rock. If I wasn’t so enamored with Pointy Hats, this would be an easy 3 pointer.

Oh yeah by the way I am so enamored with 365 Days of Pointy Hats, even though I can’t make out any of the words (It’s all in English, right?). It’s such an amazingly inventive piece; reminds me heavily of Super Paper Mario music at times. Love love love it.

Very impressed with the variety this week, I was worried that we were gonna be subject to 8 similar sounding J-pop tunes or something.

EDIT: Oh wow what's this about Pointy Hats being an arrangement of an Adachi tune? That explains a hell of a lot, and only further cements my point spread.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
