I know for certain it fires off a PM if your thread is moved. vBulletin sets it up even where the PM came from the person who moved it.
If your post disappears, it probably disappears for good reason that hopefully would be obvious. If you have any questions, feel free to PM any of the mods. I don't believe any of us outright delete posts, so we can see what was there. Jam it back in, in the dark.
