http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157152.html

400,000 unites available at launch day for the PS3, approximately 2 million by end of 2006. Well, 400,000 on launch day is still more than than 360 had by year's end last year, so that's good. Here's hoping Sony can keep that number closer to release.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

What's with the IGN logo on her boob. Is this gonna be standard with PS3 coverart? Wait, why's that the first thing I noticed? Didn't even see the sword. Hm.

In other news, if that's the actual boxart, I wonder why they chose to focus on one character, when Untold Legends has thus far been about multiple individuals. Hell, she wasn't even the first one shown! It was that huge dude who was halfway naked for so long.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Then allow me to clarify for you right now.

EB Games/Gamestop will be taking pre-orders for the PS3 (and Wii). The pre-orders will likely begin sometime in early October. Why so close to the system's launch? Let me explain.

Due to several asshole customers, complaints, and the fact that Microsoft severely lied to us about the number of Xbox 360s we'd be getting/allowed to take pre-orders for, the company has decided to not offer pre-orders until we know the exact number of units available to each store.

I had a lot of people accuse me for their lack of a 360 even though they reserved one. Not my fault, dickheads. In any case, to prevent that sort of thing from happening again, this was Gamestop's resolution.

Now, for those of you who think you can just appear at midnight or opening launch day and get your PS3? Think again. Let's browse through the numbers, shall we?

Microsoft had approximately what, 260,000 360's available in the US. at launch? Sony has stated 400,000 will be going to the US., slightly more than half. The store I worked at during the 360's launch received a mere 12 out of a promised 40 360s, so I'd imagine a store like mine would receive somewhere around 15/16 units. And you can bet every. single. one. will be reserved.

So unless you wanna fight through hordes of people at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, whathaveyou, pre-order your system.

In other news, apparentely the only (and thought to be exclusive) Xbox 360 J-RPG -- Enchanted Arms -- will be making its way to the PS3 as a port of the 360 verison.

Well, I'm on the fence about which PS3 to buy. The $600 version (henceforth referred to as 600-model) has a larger hard drive for one, which is good but not necessary, more or less. But it's also got built-in WiFi which, if the 360's Wireless Network Adapter is any indication, would be $100 to buy it as an attachment.

There's also the lack of memory slots that has me concerned. How much will Sony charge for the add-on, as opposed to paying $100 more and getting it included? And there's the shiny chrome and metallic finishes as well. Oooooooooooooooh shiny.

I'm probably gonna get the 500-model, but we'll see. If the attachments add up to be any more than $100 individually, then I'm going with the 600-model to ultimately save money.

Pfft, I'm immediately interested because it says that Level-5 is doing it. I'm so glad to see that a small development team is becoming a larger one, and taking on larger roles. It's great to see them in development for the PS3 so soon.

The Motorstorm pic with the water under the bridge....I didn't know that was in-game. Holy fuck. Glad to see Ninja Gaiden coming over to the PS3 and more importantly, it's nice to know that Team Ninja and Tecmo still have love left for Sony.

So then, the once $500 20GB PS3 will now be lowered to approximately $410 and include HDMI ports. Of course, this is only confirmed in Japan for the moment. That cover the jist of the PS3 keynote?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It's great to see Level-5 moving in a 3D direction, but still I wonder what effects PS3 hardware would have on cel-shading, Level-5's thus far preferred graphical method. Those screens are amazing though -- I can't believe how far they're already gotten.

I'm gonna have to check out the new Warhawk trailer. If it's making Skills consider a PS3, it's gotta be worth seeing.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Hm....air combat, check. Ground combat, check. Land vehicle combat, check. Really, the GC 2006 didn't give as good as an impression as this new trailer did. Damn, this game really does look awesome -- I thought it was all flight, but this looks really, really damn cool. Thanks Skills for bringing that trailer up!

Ah well. No US price drop. However, on the plus side the article says all 20GB PS3s will include HDMI ports.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Haven't they [Sony] said that the PS3's anti-aliasing capabilities will transfer over to PS1 and PS2 titles, making the jaggies appear less in number and smoother?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

You really think so? Granted, I know they did this with the PStwo, but then again the PStwo was also the original design -- they went with the larger box in order to cut costs.

Agreed. They're taking a survey right in the middle of Nintendo country -- Japan. Obviously retailers over there will put their money on the Wii selling better than the limited-supply PS3. Not only that, but the Wii will definitely be launching with likely ten times the amount of units the PS3 will be launching with.

I wonder, though, what a similar survey would result in if done in the States.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

They're just blowing away the 360's accesory line-up and pricing out of the water, especially if they stick with the controller price at $40 instead of the $50 wireless one MS provides. Only thing you can really compare the memory card adapter to would be the 360's memory card itself, where one is $13 and the other is $40. Hopefully Sony'll keep the prices as close to the Japanese ones as possible.

How ya doing, buddy?

The writer's probably just thinking that all peripherals at this point are bad, especially for next-gen consoles. I'd feel the same way too if all consoles handled hardware add-ons the way Microsoft and their 360 have. It's been out for almost a year now, and I swear to you it had almost as many accessories both first and third-party as the PS2 does.

How ya doing, buddy?

Where I live, there are 5 EB/GS stores in the same city, with two being within an hour's drive. With a total of seven stores in the nearby area, there will be approximately 80 PS3s available for pre-order, because a few of the stores are getting 16 instead of 8.

Was it confirmed that the $500 model will also ship with HDMI inputs installed on it, or was that a Japan-only thing as well as the price drop?

Edit: Ah, nevermind. According to CNet, "...a $600 model with a 60GB hard drive and built-in wireless networking and a $500 version with a 20GB hard drive but no Wi-Fi--HDMI was originally absent from this model but was added in September."

I can live without the built-in WiFi, as I don't even have a wireless router at the moment. I'll pick one up whe it becomes necessary.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I opened up this morning and I had more people waiting in line to get in than I had pre-orders available for them. I told all but the first six they weren't getting one, and unless they wanted something else, they could go home. Effectively stopped that rush before I even opened.

I pre-ordered mine when my boss got there, and he pre-ordered his as well, making all 8 reservations officially done. We were the last two.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
