A travel bag... or anything that has something to do with his hobby. Maybe new cloth for adventuring? Or a Swiss-Knife-hybrid-flash-disk?

hmm... how about an iPod shuffle? since he likes travel, maybe you want to consider giving him mp3 players so he could listen music while travelling. But I think it's bit too expensive for a birthday present.
