I'd like to see Mega Man in Brawl but knowing Capcom they'd want to have the Starforce version for promotional purposes. I'd be surprised if Pac-Man wasn't in the game for Namco.
I really hope they use a cleaned up version of the original Blue Bomber. He's the most iconic out of the bunch. Pac-Man I'm kind of wary about considering his 3D games aren't all that great and Namco only really had a hit that they themselves made with the original Pac-Man and nothing else. The yellow dot eating machine just hasn't grown up into our generation as well as Mario, Sonic (uh....), and Snake have or at least have more than one winning game from its original creators. Now if they took some creative license and made him lunge forward in 2d form to bit people kind of like how they gave Fox that blue speeding form and a bunch of varied moves to go along with his boxing gloves he might be interesting.

As for Squenix representation, I don't see what's wrong with generic mascots seeing as how that's what the Pokemon are. I think a moogle would be a good choice. Give him moves based on the Mog dances from FFVI, maybe his B-down could have him slam the save book from FFIX? From a promotional standpoint they might go for Batman from Final Fantasy IV (with a DS remake on the horizon) or someone from FFTA2.

According to the melee character survey a Chocobo was the most requested third-party character (more than Sonic).
Hmmm... well I guess you could go the generic route. I'd do a duo ala Banjo Kazooie with a Moogle riding a Chocobo. The Chocobo Dungeon character design would probably work best. I think that at least would open up some nice possibilities with what to do with the attacks and specials.

Am I the only person on these forums that wants to see some love from Super Mario RPG?

FU Paper Mario
I dunno, maybe, but only if you're unable to read this thread.

Frankly, I'd like to see it stay just Nintendo characters, so the fewer third party the better for me. The last thing I want is Nintendo-based Mugen (next version of Smash Brothers will have a Mii editor where you can buy skills for him and upgrade his stats as you progress through the game).
5 or 10 3rd party characters wouldn't equate to Mugen. Comparing Mugen to Smash Bros. alone is pretty fucking insulting anyway. These are for the most part well balanced, unique characters.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they added Miis to this game. If they did it right like having them use sports equipment and other fun stuff they've done with their casual Wii games they could be neat. What would be so terrible about that?

Psh, I like how people still keep forgetting that there is at the very least a requirement that the character had to appear on a Nintendo system.

And really even in the off chance that post-SNES Final Fantasy characters were on that Kingdom Hearts GBA games those cameo appearances or what not would barely fulfill that requirement.

Great news there, Metal Sphere, although we do know about a few of those things like crumbling Fire Emblem stage. =)

There's also one of Samus vs. Mario where they show off how you get the smash balls by destroying them and Samus' final smash.

GameVideos.com - Super Smash Bros. Brawl 'Mario Vs. Samus'

At the end of the video you can see another smash ball appear which is good because that confirms for people who might have been confused about the item that it will appear more than once per battle.

I'm really glad character entrances have returned. This game has all the greatness of its predecessors now. =)

Additional Spam:
Oh sweet! This one shows off Diddy's final smash and the end of a game.

GameVideos.com - Super Smash Bros. Brawl 'Diddy Rocket'

Metaknight has some sweet victory music and a badass, manly voice. The announcer sounds a bit too friendly for my taste though. I like how when it ends it basically slow-mos the last moves of the characters similar to when you beat Master Hand.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I thought that was just a non-existent rule and utter fan bullshit.
Nope. That's how it works. You won't be seeing Sephiroth, Master Chief, Ico, or Guybrush Threepwood in this game.

And yeah, while I wish it were coming out by this Christmas I'd rather have a complete game and Nintendo will be rolling in money anyway. Brawl will be a great game for the rather slow post-Xmas season. Come to think of it what big games does Nintendo have after Brawl is out in February?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I dunno, I just liked that all of them were original Nintendo characters in the game. There's a bunch out there that mix characters from various creators/companies so Nintendo's abilities to make a whole pretty sweet game just out of their own characters was pretty rad. (Though your mention of Banjo Kazooie makes me wish they'd be able to put Conker into the game for lols.)
I get what you're saying, RR, I'm just not worried about it turning into Mugen. I place a lot of trust into Sakurai on doing this 3rd party thing right. He said 2 or 3 characters from 3rd parties might be in it but I'm betting he might have changed his mind and added just a few more after all the begging I'm sure he's been getting. After all he is getting A LOT of 3rd party musical talent behind this already.

The Miis don't bother me so much, it's just the next progression after you can put in your own character is to give them "RPG-style development." Look at all the various kinds of sports games, whenever you create your own character to play, it gets to Level Up! and become stronger. People like it because it's another thing to unlock, something to keep playing for. Then you could even choose if your Mii is slow and strong or small and quick. That develops into choose a move set, upgrading abilities as you play more, etc. I'd be fine with it for this game, but I just worry what they'd do in the next installment.
I wouldn't mind some sort of hidden stats as long as it's balanced enough that it doesn't make the Miis broken and unfair to play against. It would be great if they would adapt their stats along to your play style. Now that would be neat. And no you shouldn't be having start up Miis being weaker than veteran Miis. All stats need to be balanced it's just that your Mii will have its stats balanced to how you play. That might make that controller memory storage for you Mii finally useful.

"AND ALSO FEATURING: ROB SCHNEIDER"
Rob Schneider is just a regular guy until one daaay he wakes up and finds himself in a whole new world. And it's a world of pain where he finds out it's not so easy going against veterans. Rob Schneider is... A NEWCOMER! ='D

kuttlas:
Uhhh... I have no quote. I'm just going by memory so it might have been that bogus radio show. I don't know. I've kept hearing over and over that he's said that though.

That would be kind of interesting but it would be hard to keep track of and it might futz you up if you went over to someone else's house and their Mario felt completely different when you played as him. The Mii idea applies well to this since you can carry your Miis around with you and act like a profile of sorts when you go to use other people's systems. I don't think people would have too much issue with one character being different on every system but if it was all the characters that probably won't sit well.

That idea might work well as an odd sort of handicap mode though.

"Uh, as for that thing that’s blurred out, that’s still a secret. We’re still in development, so I apologize in advance if it gets dropped, but we are thinking of one more trick for this mode." each time Sakurai sounds less convincing
He's just a very humble man, dude. That's how he is. =/

Diversion, I think you might be on to something there. Nintendo's done ghost data for Mario Kart forever. I can't imagine it being that difficult to do something similar for Smash Bros. I can't think of anything else.

Cheezeman, I guess you could say it is. I'd say that it's more like Porky/Pokey's stage. But yes that is from Mother 3. Oh, I do wonder how they're gonna explain the name change if they include him in the game as a boss. I'm sure the Starmen.net gang are up in arms about spoiler crap. Stage looks interesting and the background is very busy. Makes me wonder what Mother 3 and hell the rest of the Mother games would have looked like remade in 3d. I'd totally buy that but heck we need Mother 3 over here RIGHT NOW so whatevz.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, a location and Pokey/Porky being in the game is such a HUGE spoiler. Oh and something about there being chimeras and shit. Really, if that ruins the game for you then you lose, don't bother playing anything again. I haven't played Mother 3 yet and this certainly doesn't bother me.

Co-op Event Mode would be pretty sweet. It could take away some of the challenge if they didn't up it accordingly since you have someone helping you. Still, it could be pretty sweet. =)))

I would have preferred to see those videos without forced remix music on top of them. I guess they couldn't record the game's audio for some reason. Looks really awesome otherwise.

The problem with all those projectiles on a completely flat stage like that is that they have complete advantage. You're so busy dodging their shit that as soon as you air dodge they just quit their barrage and come head butting your way. It was a favorite tactic of this really good Samus player I knew. She had it down pat. And if you don't know just how to dance around her just so you're just gonna end up getting raped. I found dynamic levels to be by far more fair since everyone is on their toes on varied ground which allows players to get better foot holds at different locations.

Oh, I know it's a valid tactic. Doesn't mean I like having it used against me on such a mundane level OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

No, you assume that is all this opponent does. Oh she mixes it up. But she manages to pull out that tactic pretty well. Besides I normally play 4 player matches so I'm not always watching her.

I like all levels and all characters dude. I just don't like playing the same thing over and over. Even though she'd kick my ass because she was good at least I got to do different things. That's why I play random character and random level every time unless someone has a hankering for a specific level. If I were to ever take tournament play seriously I'd have to be a Bowser player because that would have to be awesome and while difficult the challenge level and hilarity of Bowser would make it fun. Plus Bowser players get lots of respect. Not as much as Pichu players I'd imagine though.

wvlpvp, actually you could see all those videos clearly. There was just remix on top of them that we weren't interested in listening to. This update is nice but I'd rather that for filler stuff like this that they double it up. I'm glad that Adventure Mode is more fleshed out.

About playing Smash Bros. I have a decent amount of skill. I'm not a push-over but I'm certainly not a tourney level player. I play to have fun and cause chaos. And I'll do it any way that I can which is perfectly fair because I play random characters and work with what I get. My strategies are abundantly clear with the folks I play with but that just makes it more fun. They know when I start high rising it with Jigglypuff that I'm about to make a retarded rolling swing from the side but I still do it anyway even if I miss and die. I'll suck people in on the edge as Kirby and fall to my death. I'll attempt to grab and dive backwards as Kirby if they have enough damage as well. If I'm Peach you will have a turnip coming your way every second I can muster. If I can find that comfortable spot then I will juggle your ass with Ness using PK Feather (or whatever it is he says for his up special). I'll play pinata as Bowser and get all players to incur as much damage on me as possible which results in a lot of accidental conflicts. I'll toss bombs non-stop if I'm Link or Young Link. Everyone loves using Link's sword and spinning attacks but not me. I like abusing moves and strategies that aren't really great for winning fights but really mix a fight up a lot. Why? Because it's fun. I lose a whole heck of a lot, but my shenanigans can really turn a fight for the other players. You don't really lose when you are the random hazard player.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

The replay feature is nice but not a good enough feature. If Halo 3 can record entire campaign runs then Brawl should be able to record the length of at the very least 20 minutes as I play five life battles as standard and those can last a while sometimes. I hope if they ever do release an external harddrive that they release some sort of patch to enhance this feature. These replays better be interactive with a camera. I'm just a little disappointed.

Also, I'm going to miss character-specific break the target levels.

I will be PISSED if they save these replays in flash or some video format. That would be a huge reason why they'd be only 3 minutes in length. Have the game render the code. It opens up a whole bunch of better possibilities. Code is much more efficient than encoded video. I will be SUPER PISSED if it isn't code.
