Oh I haven't posted in here in a while!
Still leveling up my team, *poorly* attempting that online battle tower challenge, trying out some moveset strategies and the occasional online trade. Things of that sort.

So with that, I have a few pokemon up for grabs if anyone's interested:
Growlithe
Doduo
Meowth
Cubone
Bagon
Nosepass
and one Lapras

Aside from your usual rare items like a Lucky Egg, Leftovers, Hearts Scale, and Dragon Fangs~ I'm not really asking for anything in return =).

Ewww, and I thought Freezer and...whatever the other birds' names are...were bad

Isn't Umbreon's Japanese name 'Blacky'?
You know they sound much better with a Japanese accent. Example:
Sandaasu = Thunders
Shawaazu = Showers
Buusutaa = Booster
... oh and,
Burakkii = Blacky

Then again, I do get a kick when I try to say the english counterpart with a Japanese accent. Suffice to say I do prefer just using the Japanese lingo =x.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Speaking of racist-sounding evolutionary names, I have like 6 extra Eevees sitting in my box. I also have one of every one of the evolutions, all of which are potentially up for grabs except for Umbreon and Espeon because happiness is a bitch to raise.

I also have a few Duskulls, and some Tyrogues. All up for grabs. Make me some deals, folks.
Actually, I would like a Glaceon and Leafeon. If you're not interested in any of the above pokemon I listed I could probably breed the pokemon you want. That is, if you are looking for any.

Is the Growlithe still available? If so I'm interested. I need a good fire Pokemon that isn't Ponyta. I don't have any of the items you listed though. ;_;
I still have two available =).
I've already added your FC so just PM me whenever you're ready to trade.

~oh yeah, you will need a fire stone to evolve it. If you don't have one of those I'll toss one your way!

Additional Spam:
Anyone have a Scyther or Scizor they'd be willing to part with? I have some homegrown Eevees sitting in my box
I'm pretty sure anyone with a copy of pokemon diamond can catch one for you. Sadly I'm not one of them =p.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm very close to finishing the entire Kanto dex. All I'm missing is Electabuzz, Kabutops, Omastar, and Dragonite. If anyone could supply me one of those (not their preevolutions, I have all of those) I'd be much much obliged.
Woah, good luck on getting a Dragonite. They're generally too much of a bitch to raise to simply give up =p.
I might be able to get a Kabutops though, I just need to raise it to level 40~ which will take me an hour or two.

(And I guess you decided to shoot down our other trade? I didn't get a reply from you.)

edit: Bah nevermind! I should've refreshed, sorry ><. I guess you can trade with Chaotic for the Kabutops~

Wouldn't it be a good idea to trade for any evolution, and then just raise what you have as necessary?
In a standard situation I'd agree with you. But I think BurningRanger here is actually trying to catch them all. At once.

edit: I guess I'll take this time to edit in what I have extras of today. If you're interested in any just PM me.

Pidgey (♀ & ♂)
Poliwhirl (♂)
Pinsir (♂)
Kangaskhan
Shellder (♂)
Burmy (♂)
Combee (♀ & ♂)
Nidoran♂
Vibrava (♀)
Bellsprout (♀)
Skorupi (♂)
Phanpy (♀)
Nosepass (♀)
Bagon (♂)
Dratini (♀)
Gible (♀)
Ninjask (♀ & ♂)
Miltank
Staryu
Lapras (♂)
Growlithe (♂)

The only pokemon I'm looking for at the moment is a nidoran♀, apparently they're much more common in diamond version =p.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Kairyu, I'll take the Kangaskhan. I'll look for the Nidoran♀ tonight.
Awesome to hear Chaotic, I'll go ahead and reserve a Kangaskhan for you. I hope you don't mind it being a level 1!

Sorry. I ended up getting a Pinsir from my local friend and I caught a Kangaskhan of my own. I probably should've told you so but it totally slipped my mind.

Anyway, I know Dragonite takes forever to raise, which is why I didn't really expect anyone to give one away, just figured I'd throw it out there if someone had a Dragonite they didnt want anymore.

I have all the preevolutions of the pokes I listed, I just would prefer not to have to spend the time evolving them. If I can do that, and also supply someone else with something they were looking for, everybody wins.
That sounds reasonable =p.
If I can get the Kabutops ready for you some time tomorrow would you trade it for a Vulpix? I'm actually having a crazy hard time finding anyone that has this pokemon.

And no sweat, I practically forgot about it too when I realized I got no reply back from you =p.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I know, but they're not frequent enough to make them practical to level off of.
Oh I was thinking the same thing but several times while I was leveling up I ran into 5 to 8 steelix in a row. So accumulating experience with a traded pokemon plus a lucky egg felt like winning the lottery.

Perhaps it's some kind of glitch or maybe it's the time of day I visit these areas. But damn that's a lot of experience points.

Nice to see alot of people eager to do battles. I'm available right now if anyone wants to fight =p.
To make things easier my FC is: 1246-5201-4026

Also, how does everyone feel about having a small tournament some time soon? If Elixir isn't going to start it I'm ok with spear-heading it. As for how we'll setup everything... I haven't thought about any specifics other than making it with the usual single-elimination brackets. So I suppose if there is any interest maybe we can start brainstorming now or maybe even make a seperate thread on it.

Hey thanks for trading IC, I appreciate it!

I'm in for a tournament but I'm no where near level 100. Most of my Pokemon are nearing 60 about now. Maybe different brackets for different level ranges?
Yeah like IC said, you can pick a preset level before battling.
I'm fine with having different brackets for certain level ranges but if participation doesn't pick up then it simply won't work.

Oh yeah another thing. How does everyone feel about allowing legendary pokemon? I'm more or less against it. Why? A lot of them are overpowered. Especially Regigigas, Mew, Mewtwo, Kyogre, and Groudon. But if it comes down to a compromise I wouldn't mind making certain legendary pokemon allowed like Battle Tower's setup.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

As for battling, I prefer informal battles, but tournaments are okay as long as people don't get all asinine. If you don't count Pokemon I transported from Ruby/Emerald, most of my regularly used fighters are around level 63. I'm slowly building myself a truly fightworthy Sinnoh Squad but that's gonna be a while, so I'll make do with the ragtag bunch I've got laying around.

I don't mind allowing some of the more uber Legendaries as long as they're not ungodly insane. Stuff like Articuno, Regirock, Metagross, Regice, Suicune, Mew, Entei, Jiraichi et al, those are fine. Jiraichi is actually pretty good.
It's when we get into the HOLYCRAP Pokemon like Kyogre, Lugia, Mewtwo, Rayquaza, Giratina and (eep!) Arceus, that I have reservations.
(If you actually have an Arceus, that's cool. I don't mind hacking as long as you're not giving your Pokemon impossible attack stats or illegal movesets.)

My caveat is that if you're going to use a Legendary, then you should be allowed no more than one on your team. This prevents Cloudiroth from mopping your Charizard all over the floor with his DEATH SQUADRON OF HOLY MOTHERFUCKING RAGE.
Well I'm hoping no one will act like a ass over a pokemon battle. From the people that I met here so far they've been a very good sport about battling anyway.

I hear you on the uber pokemon. I'm actually more worried about their particular movesets and abilities rather than their overall stats. Which by the way is higher than most pokemon you can raise.
Hm, I like that idea. Allowing one Legendary pokemon won't break the tournament, at least I don't think so. I just need to do more research on their movesets and stats before we make a final decision.

Go for it, I've been busy with some other stuff and didn't really know if people wanted to make a tournament anyway. It seems as if the hype has died down on the new pokemon games considerably so I didn't think it would happen.

But if you want to, sure.
Ah thanks.
Yeah the hype has died down a lot. I mean, only a few of us actually expressed interest for a tournament in the past 24 hours. So if I don't see a few more heads to count in another week or so we'll just casually battle on a specific date and perhaps chat (IRC sounds good?)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So does this mean Wobbuffet is legal? If so, then I'm going to raise one for this!

...

edit: Actually, I don't know how good Wobbuffet is in these games, but it'd be nice to have some sort of clarification, otherwise...yeah.

::everyone rushes and makes a team of six Wobbuffet::
I really don't see the broken potential in using one Wobbuffet... but with six in one team that could get a bit ridiculous (maybe bordering unfair) if all you use is mirror coat or counter.
After thinking about this some more the same can said for alot of other pokemon.

With the above situation in mind I decided to look around other places (forums) in how they setup their rules. So far I really agree with these collection of rules:

rules!:
~ No more than one of the same item held by your Pokemon.

~ No repeated Pokemon. For example, you're not allowed to use two Metagross' in your team.

~ Using cheat devices to maximize stats are not allowed. For example, Metagross's Max Attack is 405, its attack should not be over that mark.
(I'm not really sure how this will be enforced so I will just say I hope you guys have enough balls to not resort to that kind of asshattery.)

~ Seeing that there are some extremely powerful pokemon I've gathered a list of what pokemon are not allowed to be used in this tournament:
Mewtwo
Lugia
Ho-oh
Kyogre
Groudon
Rayquaza
Deoxys
Dialga
Palkia
Giratina
Darkrai
Arceus
(Wobbuffet?)

~ Recommended levels will be 50 to 100 (depending if we go with the "cup" styled tournament!)
These rules are not set in stone. But it's a good template to build from. If you (anyone) have any more suggestions then please say something!

Oh please no.

Wobbuffet still has an unfair set of stats, ability, and move pool. Also, the last thing any of us need right now is a Wobbuffet on Wobbuffet showdown to see who obtained the most PP Ups before somebody starts to Struggle.

EDIT:

This reminds me... if there is a tournament, shouldn't all of the Pokemon in the same team be a different species?
Oh... ew.
Well with that in mind maybe we should just put it on the "stay off of my lawn" list?

And yes, I've added that rule :3.
Who would want to battle six Blisseys or a combination of Shedinjas and Spiritombs?

Meh...a tournament means I have to catch Pokémon, breed them and have to go through the trouble of levelling them up, especially if it's going to have cups (I hate those). Of course, there's also the fact I can't even decide on my final team yet. Avenger isn't even going up to snuff so now I have to replace him. Also, I've pretty much stopped playing already due to other more addictive games (Simcity 3000, Phantasy Star IV), and newer games coming soon that are going to be addictive (SimCity DS, Tales of the World) which I will be spending my time on when I get my hands on them.

Sorry for complaining too much
Wow you made participating in a small tournament sound like actual work! This isn't the Olympics you know =p. I think you're just putting too much thought into making the perfect team. If we nix all the crazy strong pokemon then there shouldn't be a perfect team. Just about every pokemon has a weakness or huge disadvantage no matter how well you try to cover it up.
If you want to put in 100% in making the best team you ever envisioned then great! But not all of us has time to devote that kind of preperation, that's understandable. I simply don't think that can actually stop anyone from making a formidable team, certainly not me! Also, leveling up shouldn't be a problem either. We can all use a set level if it'll make things easier to manage. I'd worry more about what moves you plan to use!

Additional Spam:
neoseeker has a tier list up, I dunno, if you guys have seen it yet or not.

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/2441...d-no-wai/1.htm

I know there's a more updated one somewhere. I just can't remember the site.
Oh wow, nice find =O

I have no clue how accurate that tier list is but from what I can see I pretty much agree with the top three tiers. I'll have to look into this a bit more! Thanks.

one more edit: I think this is the UPDATED TIER LIST.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Every Wobbuffet has just about the same moveset and its ability, Shadow Tag, prevents a bored combatant from switching out, even during the mirror match. It's just a time waster that unimaginative jerks like to throw into battles because it's basically a free KO in anything but the mirror match.

At least there are ways to counteract a Shedinja or Spiritomb. Not a ton, but they exist. Against a Wobbuffet, you're cooked. It'll Mirror Coat or Counter you, then apply a Destiny Bond until you relent and let it kill your Pokemon. Wobbuffet is absolutely no fun.

There's also a rule known as "Sleep Clause". I think it means that you can't tr to put more than one of the opponent's Pokemon to sleep at a time. If the sleeping Pokemon is K.O.d, then you're allowed to use a Sleep inducer again, but not until. (If it happens through incidental means, like Effect Spore, that's acceptable.) It's kind of a gentleman's arrangement, from my understanding. You adhere, expecting the opponent to not violate the pact as well.

EDIT: Tiers are nice and all, purely for reference's sake, but I've never been one to stack my team full of overused Pokemon just because it means I'm gonna shred the competition. When I say I prefer casual battles, I mean that I like adding a bit of variety to my team. Maybe Zangoose isn't high up on some peoples' lists but that doesn't mean it's worthless. I'd rather use Pokemon that I personally think are nifty than obsess over which team is going to grant the highest percentage of victory. I do train my Pokemon to be competitive, so rest assured, it's gonna be one hell of a Zangoose. Still, I get tired of seeing nothing but Gyarados, Tyranitar and Alakazam during battle. Yes, I'll use them at times but I'll also throw Lapras, Cacturne or Ninetales out if I think it'll make things interesting.

Tiers are for scrubs.
From what I can see at Serebii.net's moveset for Wobbuffet there isn't much else it can have. Just Safeguard, Counter, Destiny Bond and Mirror Coat. Still makes it a complete bitch to fight against though. I'm up for just leaving it out unless anyone has a objection.

I like the "Sleep Clause" but I wouldn't put it in the rules or anything but it's a good thing to follow. If we add too many rules we'll end up scaring ourselves from playing in this tournament!

Oh and about the Tiers.
I had a small thought and maybe it'll have some positive impact for the play environment. Let's say we use the tier list to help determine a person's spot in a cup or bracket. Maybe a handicap system? If you saw the tiers listing you'll notice there are five tiers in total. Not including the "Uber" tier we can assign points to each tier. Each tier can be rated as such:
Overused (8 pts)
Borderline (6 pts)
Underused (4 pts)
Neverused (2 pts)
Everything else (1 pt)

For example the team I use at the moment is:
Kingdra (6)
Empoleon (6)
Dragonite (8)
Machamp (6)
Nidoqueen (4)
Miltank (6)
Average rating: 5.7 out of 8 (rounded up to the nearest tenth!)

Going by the tiers we can introduce a cup styled tournament. Maybe the team averages can be categorized like so :
1 to 2.6 points = "little" cup
2.7 to 5.3 points = "normal" cup
5.4 to 8 points = "pro" cup
That is, if the tiers listing is any indication of what the pros would use then it would be a good idea to seperate each cup by points. Rather than levels since we can all do matches at a preset level. Again, just a thought.

Well, to get decent attacks, you basically need to level up to around 50, and levelling 6 brand new Pokémon to level 50 takes too long for me, unless I use the crappy team that got me through the Elite 4. Maybe if I had nothing else to do, I'd find the time to level : /
Well I mostly agree with you there. But it's not like I'm telling you to revamp your entire team for a little tournament. It is ok to use what you have, we're all here to have some fun. I'm actually leaning more towards a silly-fun tournament since the majority of us probably isn't using a "uber" team or anything.

I'd like to compete, but I'm just not that far into the game. Haven't attempted Byron's gym, and I don't plan to until I get my perfect Marowak and Zangoose. That's proving to be extremely difficult. Anyway, if you guys put together like a newb/low-level tournament, I'm game.

Fortunately, I replenished my Manaphy supply. Granted, they didn't come nearly as cheaply as the first two (this took a Darkrai and Shaymin, as opposed to a Mothim and a fucking Golbat), but it's good to have 'em back.

EDIT: Traded away a hacked shiny Arceus for Latias and Latios. I think two legit good legendaries are worth what is more or less a fake shiny.
I am thinking of making a more "relaxed" tournament, after reading that many of us just aren't prepared for serious matches. Frankly neither am I but I just want to DO SOMETHING here worthwhile after spending too many hours raising pokemon. I'm sure alot of us can relate =p.

anyone on that would want to battle?
Haha, my Shedinja = most annoying wall ever <3

A note to everyone, if you have the chance KO Shedinjas early.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

What about beating the Elite Four?

I heard that you can earn the National Dex before you beat the Elite Four... I swear someone said that in here.
Yeah me too... the reason I think you should beat the Elite 4 first is because they have a bunch more pokemon that you probably haven't seen beforehand. But like Crash said you can always take advantage of the GTS.

In which case that reminds me, did you find a nidoran F yet? I'm still holding your Kangaskhan over here xD

A enticing offer IC but I grown 17 of them for no reason! Well it did serve as good trading material, so there was that. Anyone who doesn't have it yet should pick it up. They take a insane amount of time to grown :c.
(Oh, you wouldn't happen to have any Yache berries for trade would you? If you've got plenty I'll take 3 or 4. Otherwise, one will do!)

Anyway my news with pokemon for the past week,
-I caught a Nidoran F after walking around route 201 for hours. Infact I caught three! All while watching star trek episodes after work. Now I can continue making my team~ radical.
If you want one just say so!
-Lost against alot of you gff'ers, you and your serious teams of hate can go to hell ;_;. Yeah yeah I know. Get with the times, use better pokemon, update my moveset! Taking out my useless Shedinja might be a good place to start!
Eh, I'm a stubborn learner so I still accept challenges.

Ack, I wasn't expecting any takers at this time of night. Can it wait until tomorrow? I'm burnt out from work!
You probably know this by now but you got a PM from me!

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

IC's Skarmony was the scariest thing I ever fought in a online pokemon battle. It didn't seem like much until I realized my Kingdra couldn't do jack to it (they were both our first pokemon) I mean, I knew my battle was over when his Skarmony used both Spikes and Stealth Rock.
So every time I sent out a new pokemon about ten to twenty percent of their HP was knocked off. Still it sounded like you two had a great match.
Oh and Crash, I'm up for a lv.100 battle if you got time!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Ohh I see.

Hmm I suppose I should level up my team to 100 first. I assume playing on the preset modes (lv.50 or lv.100) will remove any IV stats you gained. Right?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Geez did this thread come to a screeching halt. I wish I had something to talk about.
Oh wait, I did have a lv.50 doubles match against Dekoa yesterday. At first he had a unexpected advantage by having intimidate on a couple of his pokemon (Luxray and Staraptor.)
Luckily, I had a type advantage for pretty much two-thirds of the match and I used Toxic Spikes to eat away at his team's HP. Everything else was a vicious series of Earthquakes, Crunch attacks, Ice Beaming then following a victory for me. It was one-sided all right. So I'm up for a rematch if you are, Dekoa.

In which case I have nothing to do for maybe the next 5 or 6 hours. That means I'm open to being owned in any battle mode. Oh I even updated my trainer card so you know what pokemon to use =p.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hey cool, the gamestop in my area is on that list. I doubt I'll have to work on a Saturday so I might as well try my hand at it.
Unless the tournament has over 50 players signed up ._.

Odds are you'll be competing against a couple of ten-year-olds. Apparently no pokemon are banned, so just bring your legendaries and a Wobbuffet.

I don't think I'm hardcore enough to show up in a public place to battle, so I may just roll up later on for "unrelated" reasons and check out what the special gift is.
I get the feeling I'll see a good amount of college kids playing in the tournament too. But you're right about the banning rule. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of players using Dialga and a bunch of Wobbuffets ._.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Before I forget about the changes I need to make~ I'm in need of a couple items. TM61 (Will-O-Wisp) and a leftover, two leftovers would be nice but I don't want to push my luck.
I've got plenty to offer in return if a fair trade is what you're after .
Some popular items include:
HeartsScales
Exp Share
King's Rock
Master Ball (my last one but I don't think I'll be needing it.)
TM02 - Dragon Claw
TM06 - Toxic
TM24 - Thunderbolt
TM26 - Earthquake ~ traded them for two leftovers
TM29 - Psychic
and many more.

Well, it's only the third shiny I've ever encountered. First was the red Gyrarados in Gold (which doesn't count), the Steelix on Iron Island a month or so back, and then the Giratina today. They need to double or even quadruple the encounter rate of shinies.
A Giratina? Wow, I haven't ran into a shiny pokemon since pokemon gold. And I KO'ed it (a sneasel) by accident .

edit:
Thanks IC for the quick response! Still in need of one TM61 though ;_;

If any of you are actually doing that tournament today, there's one more restriction that Badass didn't mention.

If your game is Action Replayed at all, you're not allowed to particiapte.

Just to let you know.
It's not a issue for me but I do wonder how this is detected, aside for obvious hacks. Does copying your pokemon onto the Wii verify this or something?
In any case I'll be leaving to this tournament in a couple hours, wish me luck!

Obviously hacked Pokemon (i.e. unreasonable stats and movepools) become "Bad Eggs" when transferred to Pokemon Battle Revolution and are therefore unusable in that state.
Well that's good to hear. I was assuming the store clerks would simply skim through each player's teams and be done with it.

But anyway, if anyone wants a TM, I probably have more than 90 of all of them thanks to the Action Replay. PM me if you want anything in particular.
Cool, I'm starting to look forward to this mini-event.

Damn, why didn't I think of looking you up yesterday when I needed a Will-O-Wisp TM =p.
Oh well I spent 3 hours or so last night getting it, a very fustrating 3 hours. At least now my Spiritomb is now my first EV trained tank with no weaknesses.

How ya doing, buddy?

The Bad Egg thing actually happened during the tournament, but they let it slide for some reason. We really didn't want the kid to win at all, and I'm happy the guy who won sweeped with his Gyarados.

So, Kai, did you do the tournament? If so, how did it go?
Woah really?
Over here, there were more AR users than anticipated. Over 20 people were ready to sign up but only 9 were able to participate. What really got me is that 5 of those players were around my age.
The tournament itself went well. Lots of watchers, bad news for me is that almost everyone was using some combination of legendary pokemon. Namely Mewtwo, Palkia and Kyogre. Naturally I lost in the initial rounds but I did take down a couple legendaries before my round was up. So it wasn't a total loss, hell a lot of players were cheering for my team for some reason .
What was I using?:

Nidoqueen (Leftovers)
Spiritomb (Leftovers)
Machamp (Leftovers)
Dragonite (Lum Berry)

To sum it up, it was a awesome experience. I hope they do something like that again.

Speaking of which, are we ever going to run a tournament here?

I'd figure that if we used Battle Revolution, it's the only way it would be fair, but not everyone owns it. <_<

I doubt that some people would want to own it anyway.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Well there aren't many of us that are still active with this game. From my last head count I think I had:
Me
Chaotic
Crash Landon
IC
Generic Badass
and maybe Freelance Wolf

With only that many potential players we could do a round robin style tournament instead of a single elimination tournament. Also we still haven't decided to stick with a lv.50 or lv.100 rule =p.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Legendaries had to be the most annoying thing at that tournament though. Probably 95% of the participants (including our winner) had a legendary. I honestly hate using them because they feel cheap and I never have to work with them. I guess I'm one of those sad people who actually like that re-assuring feeling of working with a Pokemon and actually raising it myself.
I couldn't agree more. I don't like the fact that I would barely have to do any work to make a effective legendary team. It's just too cheesy for my taste, even if it was for a 50 dollar game.

Quote:
Anyway, I constantly saw teams full of Dialga and Giratina. Ironically, I didn't see a single Palkia in the tournament.
Different regions had different favorites, it seems =p.

Quote:
As for the tournament so far, I think we should have people submit and lock their teams so we can figure out an average level or something. Maybe with that, we can figure out the range of levels that we could use.

Perhaps we should just do a league style tournament or something. Everyone faces each other once, whoever has the most points is the winner?
I like that idea, should I create a "league" thread now? Or we can do all the work here, I can swing either way.
..Come to think of it I'm not familiar at all with the pokemon league rules. Is there any official site that would have that kind of info?

There's nowhere I can't reach.
