Alright, updated the first post =D

All we're missing now is radcliff's FC but he said he should have one by the time you're ready, Josiah. Also, I haven't heard from Xardion in awhile nor has he responded to my PM. Anyone know if he's still available to play?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So Icy is not invincible =O

Hey Josiah, I'll be available to do a match tomorrow afternoon or evening. Is that alright?

Now, I do have a question about this that I'm pretty sure hasn't been answered either way, at least in this thread. Prior to Round 3 or 4 (though I'm fairly sure it was 4), I switched items on one of my pokemon. Is it okay to do that between fights? If not, I'll make it a point not to do that anymore. At the time I thought if the answer were no, it would have been stated in the opening post based on experience from prior tournaments.

...On the other hand, considering how Round 4 went down, I don't think the change made much of a difference. The switch was made on the first pokemon.
It's ok to switch out hold items between matches. The only thing I expect you guys not to do is switch out your movepool to give yourself an advantage. That's why you're allowed to bench three more team members.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm thinking about it. So it'd be like a pseudo-ava/sig theme week? That'd be cool. I was thinking every participating member could put in a low-profile sig to show what gym he or she represents. With a little photoshopping that won't be too hard to make it for all 17 types. But I'll leave it up to the person if they want to change their avatar too =o.

Kairyu vs DarkMageOzzie

Awesome, I got to do a match today =D

Battle Report:
Round 1 (6v6):
When I saw his first pokemon my initial thought was, "I'm screwed." I'm not exactly built to handle the combos he was about to deal. Luckily for me my evasion tactics gave me one turn to go more the offensive. I won with three pokemon able to battle.

Round 2 (3v3):
Ack, I was status affected D:
Not much happened here, I lost one pokemon due to a certain agent from Ozzie but my combo was well in progress. A quick and dirty win for me again.

Round 3 (3v3):
Tartarus practically dominated the entire battle here but gave out on Ozzie's last Pokemon. Still, I finished it up with a grand avalanche from hell.

Match Summary:
Kairyu wins 3-0!
Kairyu loses 5 Pokemon
DarkMageOzzie loses 12 Pokemon.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Now that you mention it I'll go ahead and post the sketches I've done so far .
Normal Badge
Pauuuunch Badge
Sandstorm Badge
Sludge Bomb Badge
Please excuse the quality, I honestly did not spend much time on them as they're just mock up sketches for Icy to draw out as pixelart badges.

Anyway! I'm available to do some battles in about 2 hours. If you don't mind getting some sand in your eye just call me out.

Alright, after driving 550 miles to Maine, spending a week with other GFFers under one roof, visiting relatives down the coastline, and driving 530 miles the other way, I'm finally home.

The good news is that my Pokemon team is ready for battle. The bad news is that I'm pretty well exhausted tonight and have to work at 9AM in the morning.

So once I'm settled in again, I'll give word and contact people about getting those fights finished.

Meanwhile, I see we're adopting "leader" av/sig themes? I think something with a twisted spoon, on a purplish background, would make a good Psychic Badge. If somebody wouldn't mind designing that, I'd be grateful.
Sounds good. In the mean time I tried my hand at your badge. If you like it I'll go ahead and give it to Icy when he gets back.
Link to the Spoony Badge.

Alright, though it took much longer than I thought it would, I've got my team all set up (minus alternates, but eh). So I'll be available to do matches at any time!

Just drop me a line and we can go from there.
Are you going to be on a little while longer? I already have a match scheduled in less than 30 minutes (against the normal types.) If you'll be out by then we can have the match tomorrow.

Kairyu vs Black Mage

Battle Report:
Round 1 (6v6):
Oh where to start. In short, this was a crazy epic match! If you somehow put bets on me losing this one you would've lost a crap load of money. For about two-thirds of this match it probably looked like I was getting my ass handed to me and I couldn't do ANYTHING about it.
We traded a few good hits but the damage done to my side was ugly. Battered and down to my last two, Black Mage thought a little tank trap was in order. Four or five turns later (I honestly lost count) Charon miraculously broke free with some good timing and a lot of beaming. Ice Beaming that is. He eventually took down Charon so all I had left was the feared Enyo. The rest of his three pokemon couldn't handle Enyo's furious attacks so I eventually had a landslide victory.

Round 2 (3v3):
After my close shave that I called a victory Black Mage started beating the tar out of my pokemon. I'll admit the match was getting close here but I ran out of steam a little too early by being weak to a multitude of attacks.
Here Black Mage barely survived with two pokemon.

Round 3 (3v3):
Why is THAT a flying type?!
I got the sweep. I tried to resist but there were just no openings for me. Damn my natural weakness to birds.
Black Mage won here with all three pokemon intact.

Round 4 (3v3):
It looked a lot like round 2 but more of a beat down. Nothing I had worked ;_;.
At least I took down one of his death machines.
Overall, good matches I hope this is the last of my losing streak!

Match Summary:
Black Mage wins 3-1!
Kairyu loses 14 Pokemon
Black Mage loses 8 Pokemon.

[edit] I like how a lot of us are also using the Pokemon Gijinka art as av/sig art. It fits together nicely.
Haha yeah, Generic Badass linked me to the site yesterday. I might make a set for myself later this week to match it with you guys. But we'll see!

Kairyu vs radcliff13

Battle Report:
Round 1 (3v3):
I kinda felt bad Radcliff didn't have more than 3 pokemon to shuffle through. Which made my ground tactics almost painful to watch ._.
Aside from me losing one pokemon from a powerful non-fire attack it was almost a clean sweep for me.

Round 2 (3v3):
I decided not to switch out my team to help keeps things a little fair. So I changed the order =p. I don't think it helped Rad one bit though. There was just too much sand.

Round 3 (3v3):
Same thing as the last round. Since neither of us decided to switch up anything. Therefor the outcome was exactly the same. I still lost one pokemon though, I think I have too much faith in my defenses.

Match Summary:
Kairyu wins 3-0!
Kairyu loses 3 Pokemon
radcliff13 loses 9 Pokemon.

Yo, GB. I'm up for a match. Sending a PM now~

alternate battle report:

Round 1 (6v6):
YouTube Video

Round 2 (3v3):
YouTube Video
(note: no explosions)

Round 3 (3v3):

Match Summary:
Chaotic wins 3-0!
Chaotic lost 7 pokemon
Kairyu lost all his pokemon due to earth's destruction.

Hello slowly dying thread! Just checking up on everyone. How's everyone doing here? I haven't gotten to look through every report posted in here but from the looks of it things are moving well enough.

Out of the 10 players I'm supposed to fight, I've fought 7 already. This leaves:
-Generic Badass
-Crash Landon
-Xardion (?)

But I haven't heard or seen any activity from Xardion since the time he posted here. So unless someone knows he's still interested or can at least pass a message directly to him, I will cross out his name from the roster by monday.

I'd very much like to finish this tournament by the end of next week! And maybe start sign-ups again by mid-June, if everyone is ok with that.

Also, in case anyone is wondering when I'm available to battle. It probably won't be tomorrow (Sunday.) I will however be available to fight Monday through Friday, usually in the late afternoon to evening hours. Again my timezone is weird compared to most. -10hrs GMT to be exact.
I'll try to send out PMs ahead of time let you know if I can battle.

So what are you planning for the next tournament, Kai? Normal stuff? More gym leader stuff? Or do we actually determine the GFF Pokemon League?
I don't know if we can make a league out of this, we need more players for that =p
Right now, if this tournament is finished soon I may try a take two of this tournament. I'm sure some of us are itching to get a different type, unless you have a better idea!

I've only fought Kairyu, Sousuke, and Icy so far. BTW Kairyu you realize you don't have Icy listed in the first post?
I really should fix that, sorry!

That would be pretty random. And I mean that in a bad way xD. Mostly because these internet based tournaments tend to last weeks instead of a day or two. People might regret signing up after finding out he or she is stuck with a team of unusable and craptastic Pokemon. While someone else may get a team of OU/BL pokemon.

Though it is a good idea if this were done in, say, an actual building where we would meet for a day.

Why stop there? Let's do what the Sunset Colosseum did and randomly swap our best pokemon with everyone! Then battle it out and see who got lucky. Winner gets to keep the team, forever

Ok that's enough out of me, I'm stupid tired right now~ Again, everyone! Let's try to get our matches done. We don't have all summer, here.

Exclamation deadline

When this is all done, perhaps the winner (or top X players) should challenge Miles to a match with their team. Having a title like "leader of all gym leaders" without being a participant in this tourney seems like rather big talk to me.
Oh, I would like for that to happen. If he honestly wants the Gamingforce champion title he will have to fight the top four that placed in this tournament, at least. And if we were to go the whole nine yards technically he can't fight them until he collects the eight gym badges for this region, err I mean board.
I should be available most of tomorrow, if anyone is interested in battle. I'm pretty much finished with my pokemon, but my hold items still suck. :\

I'll do my best.
Awesome, I'll toss you a PM tomorrow then.

Attention!
One more thing, everybody. I can't keep this tournament going forever so I'm posting a deadline for all those slackers. You have until June 15th (yes, that is a Sunday) to finish your matches. Point totals on that day will be finalized and the top four will then be determined.
If you don't have time or just too busy, tell me! I'll do my best to arrange something otherwise I recommend that you forfeit and wait until the next tournament.

Kairyu vs Generic Badass

Battle Report:
Round 1 (6v6):
My setup wasn't built for fighting bug types so I was expecting somewhat of a challenge. And I'm glad I took that precaution. His weaknesses actually confused me for a bit too since I'm lacking some of the recommended attacks on just about my entire team. Luckily for me, I had little to worry since many of his attacks had trouble dealing damage too. Still, with a good amount of damage trades I managed to survive with three pokemon.
edit: Also, lol at my roar attacks :3

Round 2 (3v3):
GB's pokemon actually outpaced me here so I suffered one KO. But after that it turned into a biting sweep of death for his bugs.

Round 3 (3v3):
For a bug user he put up a very good fight! If it weren't for my Sand Veiling setup I would've been finished or swept in a few short turns. Close match but my sandstorm and everything else was just too much!

Match Summary:
Kairyu wins 3-0!
Kairyu loses 6 Pokemon
Generic Badass loses 12 Pokemon.

Kai: If I don't get any response from radcliff or Black Mage, I won't be able to break any records.
Yeah, I know. I'll drag out the round robin half for another day. If it'll help.

If they don't show up I can always cancel out any victories/losses gained from fighting them. Which will balance out everything. Problem is, it's not exactly the most fair solution to those that have fought them already. So at the same time anyone here could say in effect, "you snooze, you lose." Again, not exactly fair either given the circumstances.

So, how about a quick vote to those involved? Yes/No?

For the sake of getting results in by Sunday, I'll say yes to dropping some points. If you have a better suggestion I'd definitely like to hear it =).

Yo Radcliff, not sure if you go my last massage but if you want faster responses you will have to hunt each individual down through PM and or whichever IM service they might be using. That's how I got my matches done quickly.

About this tournament:
(something kai could compare to an old statistics math final.)
A chart like that would be awfully useful once everyone has done their matches. But the way it stands now the results look a bit lopsided. I think for now I'll just stick with the simple yet effective, "add up all the wins/loss points for each player." And make the placing list from there.

As for the next tournament idea. That's not a bad variation (or improvement even) but how will that stop players from all picking combos like Dragon/[insert alternate type here]. Granted there are only so many decent Dual type dragons to choose from but if a person wants a strong sweeper he or she will pick a dragon. So we may get a lack of variation there. Other than that small issue I wouldn't mind participating in a tournament like that.

...

One solution I thought of, but it's a bit far fetched. Is allow people to pick that type combination (ie, dragon/water pokemon) but also impose certain move limits. Something like you can only learn moves that are of that type. So if you pick Normal/Rock you can use moves like Stone Edge and Body Slam. But not Ice Beam :3. Same goes for non-damage moves.

But like I said, it's a little out there and might require a bit of time to prepare for.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
