For all its worth Jill could be alive, and that Chris, upon hearing the destruction of Raccoon by a nuke, presumes Jill dead.

Because you know these types of shenanigans gets pulled up all the time.

And regarding Sherry:

Spoiler:
There is no in game model for her, meaning she is a FMV only character, people are speculating she's a teaser for RE6
Spoiler:
I'm fairly sure she's in the game and that this is her in-game model, complete with aliasing and stuff.

Either way, can't wait - the plot looks ace so far and I'm totally digging the soundtrack (the track here at 1:59, for example).

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

wow seriously am I the only thinking that the graphics of RE5 are almost better than the movie? (degeneration)

Capcom surely improved in that department, some facial expression of Sheva was really stunning.

Because you know these types of shenanigans gets pulled up all the time.

Umbrella Chronicles debunks that theory of yours, since Jill and Chris found each other and then, with a large team of people, infiltrated a Umbrella Base and took them down at the end of that game. That event took place way after RE3.

They then both join the BSAA, hence why the group name is on her gravestone. She must have "died" in one of the missions.

Regarding that woman.

Spoiler:
That's speculated to be the "WIFE" NPC in the game.

There is no data on her at all from the demo, despite the fact everything else is. Her model would have been called Sherry if she exists.

wow seriously am I the only thinking that the graphics of RE5 are almost better than the movie? (degeneration)
No you're not the only one. Their FMV/CG departement needs a major upgrade.

For those who wanted to see the TGS trailer on their PS3 it's available for download on the JPSN. Not sure how long it's been on there for, but it's definitely recently since it never came up during TGS.

Oh, and NECA is releasing RE5 figures. No surprise considering they made figures for RE4 and did a RE10th Anniversary line. I'd say the RE5 line is looking to be the best in the series, although Sheva looks kinda weird (something up with the face), especially now that they've finally added some articulation to the legs (elbow, torso, hip and knee joints). From what I can tell the articulation will be on par to NECA's TMNT line or Dom from their Gears of War line.

Check out the end of this interview with Randy Falk to get a glimpse of an unpainted prototype Chris with the new articulation in motion.

Yea, loved that part. The cut scene music is probably where we'll hear the best parts. So far the ingame stuff is like RE4's soundtrack, which I thought was dull.

In case it gets deleted cause Capcom said so, here's the spoilers regarding Jill.

Spoiler:
There are two Jill Boss fights, listed as Jill 1 and 2. The Masters of Removing trophy I posted must have something to do with working together to snap her out of it, like removing the Las Plagas. Jill's knife is also listed because she is a playable character in Merc mode.
I know I should not view thee, but I'm too curious about her situation to not look.
Spoiler:
Ha! I knew she'd get an appearance, especially since she's one of the main characters in the series, and would be a making it as a boss. The TGS trailer basically revealed that aspect ("But now that your partner has arrived, I'll leave you two to catch up."). Thank god we get to save her though, assuming that's what the information implies, now there's a chance that she may return for a sequel!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Is it just me or does this game seem to be looking more like a Metal Gear Solid type game instead of Resident Evil? Don't get me wrong, its a good formula but its just not Resident Evil's. From the trailer it seems as if we get cut scenes showing the antagonists together plotting and planning. Has there ever been in a Resident Evil game...scenes that took place that wasnt around the character you were playing?

Spoilers about certain former STARS member...

Spoiler:
I read this on a couple different forums, someone posted a plausible theory that didn't have a credible backing but still seemed very likely when you piece together scenes from the trailers.

It went on about how Jill really did die, on a mission with Chris she botched something up and stayed behind so Chris could survive. While this seems kind of lame, it also feeds into the whole "partner" aspect of the game.

After she died, Wesker recovers her corpse and begins experimenting on it. Which confirmed that the girl in the tube is Jill. This person also made a claim that the bird lady was Sherry Birkin who is grown up and working with Wesker/Tri-Cell now. There is also talk that Claire contacts Chris and asks her to save Sherry for her from Wesker. This could be the Master of Removing, since you know somehow Wesker is controlling Sherry.

While its plausible that there is little truth to this, it does seem like its a likely scenario. In addition to this, they said that the final fight against Wesker happens inside a close to erupting Volcano. Chris still unable to defeat him gets saved by someone. Speculation regarding this was it could be either Sherry or Jill. My only beef is that if Jill did in fact die, that really makes things far fetched. While I can see them doing it...where you fight a Infected Jill eventually defeating her which most likely leads to a "Kill me and put me out of my misery" cliche which would be a really lame copout.

On yet even on another hand, what happened to Wesker to make him how he is? Was he confirmed dead and brought back with a virus which enhanced him? Or was he close to death? I dont remember exactly. If its the first one, that could very well be what happens to Jill. Where she wouldnt be mutated or changed in anyway except for maybe a red glow in her eye. Who knows. Personally Id like to save her and have the ability to follow one of her stories in a future game, but eh. Remember the person posting this information hasnt linked a source so its mainly all speculation. But it has more of a plausible feeling then "OMG no wai could they kill Jill!". Which if in fact they do kill her and she stays dead canon wise...there will be alot of unhappy RE fans. Especially since Sheva is being jammed down our throats.

RE4 had a couple of scenes like that, namely the ones where Saddler sends Krauser out after Leon and where Krauser is talking to Ada.

Yeah I forgot about those, it's been a while since I played it. I guess it makes sense, RE4 was kind of a change in direction from the original RE formula. It was one of the rare instances where the change helped the series. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy RE 1-3 and CVX.

Have they announced what will be in the North American collectors edition of RE5? I know Japan is getting the art book and USB thumb drive. Gamestop is giving some shitty art cell. I'm guessing the collectors edition will come with an additional DVD containing previous trailers which they could just fit it in the blu-ray disc for the PS3 version.

Whatever it is, it needs to be worth the $90 Gamestop is touting. I talked myself out of getting the SF IV Collector's Edition after seeing this, but an art cell is NOT worth the extra $30 imho.

Well I hope they announce what's going to be in the collectors edition besides a damn DVD and tin case which will get dented easily.

I also need to play the other RE games before 5 comes out. The only one I've beaten is RE4. I like the games but all the ones before 4 have horrible controls that stop me from continuing the game.

The demo is coming to the West in the next couple of weeks:

Quote:
Fans of Resident Evil won't have to wait much longer to have a taste of Resident Evil 5 in playable form.

Capcom announced Wednesday that the demo for the highly-anticipated action horror game is arriving on Xbox Live on Monday, January 26.

The demo will hit PS3 one week later, a Capcom rep confirmed. He gave no reason for the one-week gap between the demos. The full game hits shelves on March 13 this year.

Hmm, I wonder what the delay is for? I mean, I'm guessing it'll be as simple as "We wanted to treat our Japanese audience to it before you western heathens" but either way, I'm hoping for the possibility of an added scenario since I played the shit out of the Japanese demo.

Ahh, dagget beat me to it. Nice extras there, I like the Bag and Shoulder patch the most.

I haven't kept up with the thread, what's in the bonus disc?

Also, this is only tangently related, but I came across something that Resident Evil fans might be interested in.

How nice, the collectors edition comes with a manual.

I don't know if I want to get the collectors edition or not. The Bonus disc is probably just a DVD and not even a blu-ray disc. I might end up getting it since I won that kijuju spamming contest Capcom has where the top 100 sharers get their names printed in the manual and I got first place. It seems the contest is still going on with the latest videos but w/e I got first place spamming the first video. So instead of just getting the regular edition I might as well get the collectors edition and get the extra goodies which don't really interest me other than the steel case and the kijuju necklace.

Yea, I'm with Dagobert on this. The CE looks nice, though content-wise there's nothing there that I'm dying to have. I'd probably never use the Tricell messenger bag, BSAA patch, or Kijuju necklace/keychain (they say it's one thing, but looks like another). The bonus disc contains some short 20 minute making of featurette. And the Chris figurine, well I'd rather just purchase the NECA one (articulation). I'm actually rather surprised Capcom didn't do something similar with figurine as they have done with Street Fighter IV (PS3 CE got Ryu and 360 CE got Viper, could have done something similar with RE5 had there been a Sheva figurine as well).

The price is kinda steep too, the bag is probably to blame for that. If they had included a soundtrack (like SF4, whose price is 10 bucks cheaper) I would have been much more inclined drop a pre-order for it. On well, in the end, I'll probably cave in and purchase it anyway because it's a collectable. At least the steelbook packaging has a pretty nice design.

Oh yeah, the live marketplace has the second TGS trailer available for the download. You know, the one that showed Jill's tombstone at the end (it's no secret now, everyones blabbed about it). Interestingly, Chris has an alternate outfit in one of his confrontations with Wesker. I'm guessing Chris must have met Wesker once more after Code Veronica. The location they were in looked similar to the one where they showed the old man in the wheelchair in (probably Spencer). This could explain Wesker's line in the TGS trailer (the first one), "we last met at the Spencer estate, wasn't it?" Cause I seriously doubt that was in refernce to the mansion in the first game otherwise that would retcon his confrontation with Chris in CV, assuming that line is directed to Chris.

Okay. CAPCOM likes pulling legs though, so she may be very well alive.

Or actually dead.

Demo is out or has been for a while. Finally got around to playing it on PS3, and I have to say that I enjoyed it. It plays similiar to RE4, but I feel like its more fluid. Im not a fan of the over the shoulder type action games but Resident Evil executes it really well.

I tried Co-op with some random people, and I have learned two things. First of all, its fun as balls to pop someones head off and then start unloading onto the flying BoW that comes out of their neck. Secondly, there are some very very bad players who act like douches on Playstation Network. One partner ran right into the chainsaw boss and got one-shot decapitated. Another one just ran around back and forth and kept hitting his "Call partner" button. Hopefully one of my friends gets this for PS3 so I have someone decent to play with.

Oh heres a neat gameplay video for those interested. This is the Kraken/
Spoiler:
Irving
boss. It looks straight foward with recognizable patterns but looks f'n amazing graphic wise.

Oh well anyway story wise a couple things were brought to light.

Spoiler:
Wesker is slated to be the final boss, revealed in an interview by the producer recently. I dont think this is a big surprise. Search around and I am sure you can find the interview.

I think its safe to assume that Sherry isn't in the game. People assumed that she was the tube girl/bird woman/girl in the red dress but I think this has all been shot down. Tube girl is still up in the air, Bird Woman...well if you look around for those demo hacks...theres a cast list in there as well. It lists voice actors/motion cap actors. Jill has one of each, and if you search some more mainly on the motion capture actress's website...you'll find a video of her doing some stunts...one of which is the fmv fight between her and Chris/Sheva. Ill try to post that later if people are interested. The girl in the red, her name is Allyson and she serves the purpose of getting infected and dying. I read somewhere that shes designed to look like Ashley from RE4 with a mix of some character from one of the other games (Gun Survivor or Outbreak, I dont remember which) and Capcom is making her die quick as sort of an homage to fans since those characters were pretty much hated by the general audience.

I got around to trying the PS3 version as well. I gotta say I prefer the Type D controls for this version rather than the Type C. Oddly enough the shooter type controls I felt worked much better on the the sixaxis/dualshock 3 than it did on the 360 controller. It's probably because I played a lot of MGS4/MGO, also could have been that the L2 worked better than the LB for the knife. The reversal of the Square and X buttons from RE4 made things kind of confusing as well for the Type C. If you remember in RE4 Square was to run/reload while X was to fire/melee/action, now it's reversed for 5.

Differences in the versions, well I noticed there was practically no screening tearing in the PS3 version. When I played the 360 version it often screen teared during the cut scenes. If it did happen during gameplay I didn't notice though, since I was too busy concentrating on not getting hit. The online coop over the PSN wasn't too stable for me. I kept getting connection lost errors when either trying to connect to host or right in the middle of the combat (like 3-5 minutes into a hosted room). Though, it not a big deal to me since I plan on getting the 360 version anyway.

Playing the offline again, I noticed that Sheva's AI is really good when you set her to Attack. She makes taking out the Executioner and the Chainsaw guy so much easier. All you have to do is cover her and she'll focus potting headshots on the big guys (best to give her the rifle, she's awesome with it).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure in their recent FAQ JoyStiq have pretty much revealled the answer to a question that came up in various released screenshots. Don't read unless you're interested in potential spoilers (or at least the idea of one).

Spoiler:
In the FAQ they wrote:
Quote:
What else aren't you telling us?
Capcom has a huge list of things we're not allowed to talk about in this preview. Did you know that **** ********* is actually *****? Yeah, pretty surprising.
It doesn't take a great leap of imagination to see that the words 'Jill' 'Valentine' and 'alive' all fit neatly into the starred sections of that sentence. I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to put money on that.
