I think I would make a good cleric, if for no other reason than I would spoil the fun.

"Hey. Stop scraping your knees on that goblin's tulwar. We're trying to do some serious adventuring here."

But yeah I'd like to be a reserve. Neutral-good human cleric, name o' Filigree Hornsby, loyal to Avandra.

I should also note that I am a D&Der wannabe, and have only played one session before.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Listening to the Penny Arcade D&D podcasts, and watching you all is almost as fun as playing the real thing, but this way I don't have to worry about casting the wrong spell.

I wish my friends enjoyed things like this. ;_;

Well, we played Hero Quest occasionally long ago, but I dunno if that counts.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm sure our fervour will subside and we'll all start playing a little slower soon. You know how it is with the excitement of new toys though.
Indeed. When my friends aren't trying to convince me to ladder up on Diablo 2, they're encouraging me to buy $200+ worth of airsoft equipment for a game we have yet to play.

WILLPOWER...

SO WEAK...

(I must admit my vest looks thoroughly pimpin, though.)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Looking over the player's guide has given me a few ideas about my character, but I want to ask in the interests of practicality and fun factor: would it be too much hassle to make my character mute?

I think it would be interesting to see a "leader" character who doesn't speak, but it might cause problems down the line.

Has anyone tried this personally?

I've pretty much decided that even if he's not mute, I'm going to cripple his charisma to buff strength and wisdom.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Well, having a Cleric who's unable to speak puts a crimp on a few things; a lot of the cleric powers involve spoken prayers. If you can work around that limitation I don't see a problem with it; if we can deal with a fighter with no weapons, we can accept a cleric who can't pray.
I was thinking along the lines of a monkish Cleric who uses a staff (with holy symbol headpiece, of course.)

I could swing either way, though. A very reserved Cleric works pretty much the same as a mute one for my purposes. I thought it might be funny to see what happens when the more...boisterous heroes don't see Silent Bob motioning them to wait while he inspects the trap door.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Is there any room for an NPC whose only role is to trip one of the heroes and break his nose?
You could be a purposely useless bard, but, uh....we might not see much of you.

Question for you, Pang: I'm looking at the cleric page in the handbook, and I'm not seeing any charisma checks being needed for spells. Where exactly do they fit into my rolls?

How ya doing, buddy?

Of course without fighting it you'll never get those precious gems lodged in its naughty places.

One would hope a paladin has some kind of attack in his arsenal that turns back the undead in some way.

I just started checking out that character creator in the first post, which is awesome, by the way, but somehow I missed the fact that the holy symbol has to be held in order to be used.

I mean, I always knew it was connected to abilities, but I didn't realize it occupied space in your hand. =/

I guess a cleric with a quarterstaff would have to constantly be switching back and forth between weapon and symbol, correct?

PHB pg. 236:

Unlike other implements, you need only to wear
a holy symbol for its property or power to function.

Weird...the character creator keeps wanting me to socket the holy symbol to a hand. I guess it's just a limitation of the program.

HELL YES!

Forcing you into a certain character to fit a role in the group would smack of taking the whole thing far too seriously and that would completely miss the point of the game so far. I can't speak for everyone else but the character's personality is far important than their skills in my opinion.
When you say it like this, it kinda makes me want to change my character to something with a little more flair. I mean, humans are kinda the vanilla of the bunch, and I don't know that I could do a whole lot with austere buffer/clubby guy

While we're on that topic, where did the extra classes come from, Pang? I didn't see a few of those in the 4th edition manual. (Avenger, Invoker, Shaman, Warden)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh god the possibilities

Now I really don't know what I want to do. I mean, granted I'll have a year or two to think it over, but.

Does this mean I can play Undead Brigid?
Well, your corpse got vahporized bah tha lord, but you might be able to hammer something out as a third party possessed. I'm sure that'd make for some comedy gold

I really like the idea of making a kenku cleric, but I wonder if that might make me too squishy. I'd like to think the sneak skill would offset some of the aggro I might receive as healer, though.

Plus, the chances of a neutral good kenku cleric would be one in a million if the outside articles have anything to say about it.

This would give me the opportunity to name myself Chaka-kan, however, which is awesome.

I miss having enemy conversations/thoughts go on while our heroes bash them but good.
It'd be interesting to see what the innermost secret aspirations of a chillborn are.

Wow. Now THAT'S role playing!

Too bad the next three in reserve: Acer (halfling), Skexis (human), and Skills (warforged) aren't set up to be half-orcs or goblins
I decided to go with a dragonborn instead, so we might still be able to arrange for some post-traumatic stress disorder. Maybe the green skin will set him off into a nerd rage.

Green dragons have acid breath

Your dragonborn has ice breath

Therefore your dragonborn is descended from either blue or silver dragons (silver probably what with being good-aligned)

and would therefore not be green

VERISIMILITUDE
Would you like to play instead

Maybe I am just too awesome for your skin rules.

actually I don't care, I just want to contribute something besides commentary
