I imagine most console gamers out there have at least had a little bit of experience with Civilization and wouldn't mind a chance to get back into it.

I just wonder how they'll have to modify the game to make it feel like it was actually created for a console instead of being an awful port.

It'd work okay on any console, it's not like Civilization is some real-time zergrushing shit where you have to make fifty clicks per minute.
To me it's more of the sheer number of shortcut buttons you have on a keyborad that you won't be finding on a Wiimote that'll make it difficult to play.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
