The Sims the Movie!

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3159849

Quote:
Word today out of Hollywood uber-rag Variety is that The Sims, the top-selling PC game of all time, will soon grace the silver screen at a theater near you. 20th Century Fox acquired the motion picture rights to Electronic Arts' world-dominating franchise with the intention of translating the property into a live-action film.
"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Rod Humble, head of Sims Studio. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."

No word yet on plot or starring players, though the film will be produced by John Davis (Norbit, Daddy Day Care) and scripted by Brian Lynch (Big Helium Dog). Assuming this is such an "old story," why not skip the license altogether and create an original work? Oh, right -- brand loyalty; the kind that comes with an 85 million-selling juggernaut. Cha-ching.

Uh...what? OK...though I do wonder if they'll keep the Sims language and release movie add-ons every year.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Oh....my....

Okay, I'm a big Sims fan, but still, a movie based on the life of er, computer people, is just one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. Even worse, wil it have Simlish?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Times like these i wish i had a girlfriend who could hold my hand at times like these.

I'm scared, and i'm talking actually terrified for the movie industry if this is all they come up with.

Hmmm... Sounds a bit weird, but hey it could be good?

I was speaking idiomatically.

I can see it now...

EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF SOMEONE TAKING A SHIT!

...

THE SHEER AWE-INSPIRING POWER OF PLAYING CHESS!

...

THE PURE ADRENALINE RUSH OF MAKING BREAKFAST!

...

Coming this summer...

...

THE SIMS: THE MOVIE!

Unless there's gratuitous WooHoo scenes, I'm not in the least bit interested. I think I'd rather play the game. Actually, what would make it at least remotely interesting is if the movie is not about the Sims themselves, but perhaps someone addicted to the game and the problems that come with it. Probably won't happen though.

Even if there were, they would just censor them like they do all nudity in the games.

It might be funny as a SNL skit or something, but a feature-length film? Yikes. Not such a great idea ...

I don't know... there's a fair bit of storytelling in the pre-made families, especially with the Goth family in The Sims (and its sequel).

Jam it back in, in the dark.
