Connection Problems

A pretty vague thread title, huh? Well, the reason for that is that I'm not exactly sure what's wrong, so hopefully once I describe the problem one of you can help diagnose the cause (along with the solution).

So it's like this; my Mom works for a Medical company, in which she transcribes reports from doctors. The company provided her with a connection service for free, so we switched our old service (Comcast) for that (Snappy).

Since then, there's been some minor yet annoying problems with the computers in our house (5 of them). There's been complaints from the laptop owners (my dad and sister) about how their connections will occasionaly be too slow. My sister also complains about having low signal strength (normally it would be higher where she has her laptop stationed). As for myself, since I do more downloading than anyone self, sometimes when I'm downloading a big file (like a game), I get complaints about the connection being slow. Turning off the download makes their connections normal again.

Another example is when I log into Metal Gear Online. With my PC on, I get an orange (low) signal in the game. Turning off the PC changes the signal in the game to green (best).

So I think the problem might be that my mom's new connection can't handle 5 computers running at once. The only question is what I can do to fix it. Do I change the router (the same one we used for the previous connection), the modem (a new one provided by the company. She says it's required for her job, but she's not exactly computer-savy), or get a better online service? Any ideas are welcome.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

hm you can try getting a signal booster for your router (what kind do you have by the way)..or you can try updating your router..it sounds like your connection can't handle 5 pcs so you might wanna update your router imo

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have a linksys router with signal booster, and it was purchased fairly recently, so I don't think that's the problem.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sounds like someone's using Bittorrent but doesn't know enough to cap the upload. That causes crap like this.

And the Low Signal strength isn't related to the new computers, it's related to the router. Why she just started noticing it now is strange, but it never changed.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Here's a shot of my router, modem, and....something my mom needs. The router and modem have been the same as before, and the router has a signal boost. Sorry if the quality isn't so hot, I'll take another shot if you need it. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Fixed. Sorry.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
